My surgeon was great, But the staff at this facility could really do better. The pre-op room is so tiny that there’s one curtain separating each space, Sitting there for three hours And hearing three or four people divulge personal medical information. You couldn’t whisper in that area without other patients hearing every word. Even another patient said it made them very uncomfortable, there’s essentially zero privacy And anything you say will be overheard. You would think being a surgeon’s office there would be better accommodations with the Millions $ that flow through that place.!
To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to recount an experience following my husband's back procedure at your facility today. Prior to the procedure, I confirmed with your administrative staff that my contact information was on file and accurate for discharge notifications. Upon the completion of the procedure, I was notified of my husband's readiness for discharge by a nurse knocking on my vehicle window, as I had apparently missed earlier attempts to reach me by phone. When I subsequently arrived at the designated pick-up area, I politely inquired why I had not received a phone call regarding his discharge, as I had previously confirmed my contact details. The nurse I interacted with responded in an unhelpful and rather dismissive manner. She stated that calls had indeed been made and suggested the issue was due to my phone being on a "do not disturb" setting. I clarified that my phone was not on "do not disturb" but explained that I utilize a setting to screen calls from unknown numbers, which may have inadvertently interfered with receiving the call. Regardless of the technical aspect, the nurse's tone and overall demeanor during this brief exchange were notably unprofessional and discourteous. While I acknowledge the potential for miscommunication regarding phone settings, the staff member's manner was uncalled for and created unnecessary frustration during what should have been a smooth process. I wish to emphasize that my husband and I have consistently received excellent and compassionate care from his doctor and the wider nursing team at your center. This particular interaction, however, stood in stark contrast to our usual positive experiences and warrants attention. Thank you for your time and consideration of this matter.
I was treated very well here mostly from the nurse who hooked me up to everything once I got called back. I have this mental nervous tick that when I get very upset and nervous I gag. Once she put the oxygen in my nose I started to have an episode from the tube in my nose and the smell of the plastic. She was very kind and took it out until the medicine she gave me relaxed me then when she put it back in I was fine. My doctor was nice and professional but the anesthesiologist made a joke right before he administered the drug he said “let’s do this Michael Jackson style” it’s all fine and dandy to make jokes but I was already scared and the first thing I thought of was didn’t he die? But it was too late for me to say anything I laughed uncomfortably and was out. However the place is VERY small and dated.
I came here for a nerve release surgery. The anesthesiologist discriminated against me based on my mental health diagnoses, despite the fact that mental health had nothing to do with the surgery. I have PTSD, and she wouldn't stop affirming to me that she would need to keep my arms strapped to the bed even after I woke up from the anesthesia. No amount of telling her that I have no history of harming anyone after waking up from anesthesia, and also that holding me down or restraining me in any way after I wake up would cause a flashback, made a difference in what she said. She even compared me to criminals who get surgery, even though I have zero criminal record! The nurses were confused when I told them what happened, and due to my anxiety I required IV sedation before I could even be wheeled to the operating room. The surgical center AND the surgeon's team have promised me many times they'd get back to me about filing a complaint, but to this day I've been ignored. I wouldn't recommend going here if you have any mental health conditions - Even if they're unrelated to your case, you'll be treated as a criminal because of it. They won't even bother to listen to what happened to you. Surgery is expensive, folks, go somewhere they'll treat you with decency.
I have needed their services twice in the last 10 months. The staff's attentiveness, professionalism, and respect for you is top notch. I suffer from PTSD and when I come out of the anesthesia, I flash back hard. Their staff remembered my issues from my previous visit and I was surrounded by two caring people who literally held my hands and gently brought me into consciousness of my actual surroundings. They have set the standard by which all others will be judged!
