I am writing to express my concerns regarding a recent procedure my husband underwent with Dr. Daniel Meline. I was not permitted to join him in the pre-or post-operative areas, which was distressing. Furthermore, I was disappointed by the lack of bedside manner exhibited by the medical team, including Dr. Meline. As my husband is a cancer server patient, I would have expected a more empathetic and informative approach in communication with us.
This is related to my experience at Scottsdale Endoscopy Center, which is where this practice does procedures. I have used this center twice now for both an endoscopy and colonoscopy 18 months apart. My experience at the facility itself was OK- they did mess up the time of my procedure though, citing that the physician needed to move appointments around. Ok? Would have been nice to know if I was booked for 45 min later so I wasn't in the waiting room for 2 hours. My true complaint comes with the Billing department and unethical (although unfortunately more common) billing practices. You sign about 10000 documents for financial liability before the procedure, but when you ask for an itemized statement for the procedure with CPT codes when your bill arrives, the (offshore) billing team refuses to provide it citing office policy? You also cannot contact the center directly about any billing questions- they kick those back to the offshore team that stick to a script and can do nothing other than collect payment. This center is all about profit and actually care very little about patient experience. To be fair, I did not have any opposition from any of the other entities associated with my procedure (doctor's office, anesthesia) but the center itself won't provide an itemized statement on how they arrived at my outstanding charges? Sketchy. I would not suggest this business due to their lack of transparency and inaccessibility related to billing inquiries. Edit: I am amending my review because the next business day after my posting, the Business Manager from the Scottsdale Endoscopy Center reached out to me directly to reconcile. They heard my concerns and were able to send me the requested statement details immediately via email. I appreciate the business response to rectify this, but I also think there should be additional training in place for the offshore billing team that allows patients to communicate directly with the center if they cannot handle their request. While I appreciate the follow up, I do think there is a need for some operational inefficiencies to be solved to mitigate future patient challenges.
A great place to go if you love surprise billing. I signed up for self pay, paid in full day of, but then get several bills all at once. Including a 'final notice' of non payment. Uhh what? Turns out they billed my insurance after the fact. Isn't that wonderful? I don't respect predatory business practices nor dishonesty.
Dr. Melina is terrific, personable, and I felt totally safe. It was a great experience. His staff, every single one, is professional, kind, helpful and top of the line in every way. Do yourself a favor, get a colonoscopy and save your life, secondly do it at this office. You deserve the best.
I decided to revise my review after resolving my billing problems. I was quite satisfied with the facility and staff during the procedure but I did have some billing issues I had to get fixed. First I was billed $2200 with no insurance adjustment on the bill. I contacted my insurance provider and they told me the facility was in-network. Then I called the billing department and they said they were NOT in-network. After some back and forth I learned that they were in-network but had submitted with an incorrect Tax ID #, but billing insisted they could not resubmit with any other number. Eventually I got the office manager on the phone and he confirmed there was a mistake and said he'd get it fixed. After some time I got a bill that looked correct, so apparently he did. At the same time I got another bill for more than $5200 so I had to contact them again. I called them the day after sending the bill to the doctor's office to look at and was told the balance was zero, so they must have taken care of it. So, I'm knocking one star off for the mistake and the stress it caused, but only one because they did resolve the error in a pretty expedient manner.
