Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

Cataract SurgeryThe clouded natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with a clear artificial one. It is one of the most common outpatient procedures performed in the country, usually takes under 30 minutes per eye, and is done under light sedation with numbing drops rather than general anesthesia.LASIK / Refractive SurgeryA laser reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, reducing dependence on glasses or contacts. The procedure itself takes minutes per eye. Vision is often noticeably better within a day, though it can take several weeks to fully stabilize.Glaucoma SurgeryCreates a new drainage path for fluid inside the eye to lower internal pressure. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve silently, so the goal is preventing further vision loss rather than restoring vision already lost. Several minimally invasive options are now performed in outpatient settings.Retinal SurgeryRepairs the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye, most often for a detached or torn retina, or for bleeding related to diabetes. Timing matters — a detaching retina is treated urgently because delay increases the risk of permanent vision loss.Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)Removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. When drooping upper lids block part of the visual field, the procedure is functional rather than cosmetic and is often covered by insurance if visual field testing documents the obstruction.Corneal TransplantReplaces damaged or clouded corneal tissue with donor tissue. Modern techniques often replace only the affected layer rather than the full thickness, which shortens recovery. Vision improves gradually over months, and stitches may stay in place for a year or longer.

The staff here is amazing! They are kind, professional, and efficient. First time here I didn’t know what to expect based on another provider I visited over the summer. at TUCSON surgery center. There was almost no waiting and each step was explained very well. I actually was finished about the same time. I was originally scheduled to begin my procedure. This place is the most efficient and well run center of its type in my experience five stars.

For over a decade I have been treated at this facility with several different physicians with different issues. In September of 2024, I went back for an elective procedure and with both my copays and insurance, the bills totaled around $6,000. As always, I promptly paid my copays. 8 months following my recent procedure, I received a bill from the surgery center attached to the office for $1060. Upon calling the billing department, I was told the surgery center didn’t go “into network” my insurance company until a few months following my procedure. The woman on the phone said she would investigate and try to work something out, and never contacted me again. Today, a month later, I get another bill for the same amount. Had I known this, I would’ve waited to have this elective procedure until it was back in net work, so my insurance would have covered it, or until my Medicare insurance kicked in earlier this year. None of this was communicated to me at the time of scheduling the procedure. I’ll pay the pay, but they’ve lost my confidence and any referrals. They communicate poorly with their patients

My wife was in the staging room waiting for the surgery. The surgeon and anesthesiologist were all ready to start. The billing lady came in and said that the insurance company had not yet approved the surgery. My wife should have put her clothes on and left immediatly. The billing lady said that my wife could pay out of pocket and the surgery center would bill the insurance company and then the surgery center would reimburse my wife later. The surgery center now refuses to bill the insurance company so my wife can get her money back. They had tricked my wife into signing a form agreeing that the surgery center would not charge the insurance company. We will never agree to using Tucson Surgery Center ever again. If your doctor wants to use Tucson Surgery Center, get another doctor.

I am very satisfied with my experience here. Before my surgery I had call from them a day prior reminding me in regards of my surgery. Starting with the front desks to all the clinical staffs and anesthesiologist and my surgeon has been amazing to me. I was treated with respect and integrity. I worked at the health care too so I appreciate the care that they have given me. I am healing and grateful for everyone involved in my surgery.

I was really impressed with my experience here. I had to have surgery and the entire team made me feel very seen and safe. I didn't feel like a number because each person from the front desk and registration staff to the post-op nurse took the time to hear my concerns and be personable. Surgery can be very scary, which can make the pain worse. I felt taken care of and safe, and feel that my recovery is improved by the care I received. Special shout out to my pre-op nurse, Sherri, who was especially warm and helpful!
