Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

Cataract SurgeryThe clouded natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with a clear artificial one. It is one of the most common outpatient procedures performed in the country, usually takes under 30 minutes per eye, and is done under light sedation with numbing drops rather than general anesthesia.LASIK / Refractive SurgeryA laser reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, reducing dependence on glasses or contacts. The procedure itself takes minutes per eye. Vision is often noticeably better within a day, though it can take several weeks to fully stabilize.Glaucoma SurgeryCreates a new drainage path for fluid inside the eye to lower internal pressure. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve silently, so the goal is preventing further vision loss rather than restoring vision already lost. Several minimally invasive options are now performed in outpatient settings.Retinal SurgeryRepairs the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye, most often for a detached or torn retina, or for bleeding related to diabetes. Timing matters — a detaching retina is treated urgently because delay increases the risk of permanent vision loss.Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)Removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. When drooping upper lids block part of the visual field, the procedure is functional rather than cosmetic and is often covered by insurance if visual field testing documents the obstruction.Corneal TransplantReplaces damaged or clouded corneal tissue with donor tissue. Modern techniques often replace only the affected layer rather than the full thickness, which shortens recovery. Vision improves gradually over months, and stitches may stay in place for a year or longer.

Everyone at this office was very welcoming. It was an exceptionally thorough examination with great explanations. Jasmine spent a lot of time with me taking me through all the tests and had much patience with all my questions. Dr. Katzman was also excellent at explaining everything to me about cataract surgery.

I highly recommend Dr. Katzman and his staff at Nvision for cataract surgery. I was a little nervous about it going in, but Dr. Katzman is very experienced, very knowledgeable and very friendly. Everyone in the office is very helpful and friendly. Dr. Katzman explains the entire process and determines which option is best for you, since everyone is different. He keeps up on the latest technology and I chose the “Light Adjustable Lens”, which I didn’t even know was a thing until he presented it as the best option for me. After surgery, you can actually change the prescription of your new lens and tune it to your satisfaction. I just had my first “adjustment” and I couldn’t be more pleased with the result. I can even change it again in 2 weeks if I think I want it tweaked a little! I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the surgery itself was kind of a fun experience. Everyone was smiling and accommodating to make you comfortable and they were even playing background music, which was really calming. I like that you’re awake during the procedure and it went really fast. Don’t hesitate to see Dr. Katzman to make that investment in clearer vision. I should have done it sooner.

This was the most surprising and unexpected pleasure I thought I'd be speaking of pertaining to eye care. I would recommend Dr. Katzman to anyone looking for a surgeon for such delicate care concerning the eyes! I have already recommend him to my son, daughter, and a neighbor. Dr Katzman explained everything to me thoroughly and although I had many reservations about the surgery he made me comfortable with his recommendations and the surgery was both painless and successful! I am so glad I went through with this, I am now able to drive without glasses! His office workers were professional, exhibited kindness, knowledgeable and explained and answered all the questions I asked. The wait time in his clean, comfortable lobby was always around 10 minutes. This has been an amazing experience, I would recommend Alvarado Eye to anyone looking for an exceptional Ophthalmologist and Surgeon. Good work Alvarado Eye staff and Dr katzman.
