Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

Cataract SurgeryThe clouded natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with a clear artificial one. It is one of the most common outpatient procedures performed in the country, usually takes under 30 minutes per eye, and is done under light sedation with numbing drops rather than general anesthesia.LASIK / Refractive SurgeryA laser reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, reducing dependence on glasses or contacts. The procedure itself takes minutes per eye. Vision is often noticeably better within a day, though it can take several weeks to fully stabilize.Glaucoma SurgeryCreates a new drainage path for fluid inside the eye to lower internal pressure. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve silently, so the goal is preventing further vision loss rather than restoring vision already lost. Several minimally invasive options are now performed in outpatient settings.Retinal SurgeryRepairs the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye, most often for a detached or torn retina, or for bleeding related to diabetes. Timing matters — a detaching retina is treated urgently because delay increases the risk of permanent vision loss.Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)Removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. When drooping upper lids block part of the visual field, the procedure is functional rather than cosmetic and is often covered by insurance if visual field testing documents the obstruction.Corneal TransplantReplaces damaged or clouded corneal tissue with donor tissue. Modern techniques often replace only the affected layer rather than the full thickness, which shortens recovery. Vision improves gradually over months, and stitches may stay in place for a year or longer.

I recently had surgery here. I had silicone oil removal October 28, 2025. I was nervous about the surgery and anxious about the results. So far, so good! The surgery center is calm, clean and spacious. I felt like I was in a private hospital setting, which was nice. Dr. Taban is an excellent surgeon who I have complete confidence in working on my eyes. He is thorough, efficient and wise in his expertise. My entire surgery beginning to end was smooth. The nurses were kind and supportive, my anesthesiologist was very knowledgeable and last but not least Leslie , the surgery coordinator worked diligently with my insurance company to get everything approved. I could not recommend Dr. Taban enough! If you have the misfortune of finding yourself with a retinal detachment, this is the team you want working on your eyes. I know he works with other disorders of the eye, but this was my diagnosis. For context, my first retina detachment happened during cataract surgery with a different doctor across town. Something felt off and my gut feeling told me to find a different doctor. I luckily found Dr. Taban, and Dr. Sugarman and have been blessed to have these two eye specialists literally saving my eyesight! Nothing but gratitude to this office and surgery center.

Dr Taban himself is a very good doctor but his office stuffs are very unprofessional. They need to receive minimum training to not play with the patients’ life! after I received a especial eye drop that My pupils dilated for 4 hours. The nurses told me you can drive afterwards, but they didn't tell me I had to wear sunglasses, and they didn't even give me sunglasses. As soon as I got out of my car, pulled out of the parking lot, and went into the middle of the street, I realized that my eyes couldn't see at all. I had to drive for ten minutes in a blindingly bright light, in a blinding fog, until I got to a restaurant parking lot, parked, and called the doctor's office. The doctor's secretary said, "You should wear sunglasses." I said, "You didn't tell me." She said, "It was in the front office. You could have taken them off." I told them, "This was the first time this ointment was used on my eyes. I asked three of your three nurses three times. Not one of them said I had to wear sunglasses. I paid $280 for the visit, but not one of the nurses said I had to wear sunglasses to drive. Eye clinics are usually supposed to give sunglasses to patients who need them, but they didn't give them to me." The nurse on the line asked, "Do you have any glasses?" Don't you have any sunglasses? I said no, I just wear prescription glasses, and because of your nurses' negligence, I had to drive for ten minutes in dangerous conditions without sufficient visibility to reach an open parking lot.

My name is Tam Munn and I’ve been with Dr Taban for the past 2 years getting my eyes treated here in Torrance. I was at my worst when I first came to his office and now things are getting so much better with my vision. Dr Taban and the staff are very polite and professional with all their patients. So last month I have surgery on my right eye to fix some issues and the surgery was very successful. They just open a new surgery center on the 3rd floor of this building and I would totally recommend everyone to come see Dr Taban. Elite Surgery Center Of South Bay is where you want to come to get great services and they will take care of you like a family member. Thanks again team Taban!

I have been under the care of Dr. Taban for several years and credit him with my ability to see. We have, together, had several eye operations. The first three were with different hospitals throughout Los Angeles. A fourth was in the Elite Surgery Center of South Bay. That was an excellent experience from start to finish. The front office was friendly and efficient in setting the date for an operation, sending the prescriptions to be filled (including one that was out of stock in one pharmacy so we had to FIND one with it!), and follow up calls. The day of surgery, everything was seamless and moved smoothly. The pre-op nurse was lovely and did everything necessary to make me feel calm and ready. The operating nurse was warm and caring -- and then I was out so I can't talk about the rest! Recovery was excellent and then, time to go home! So easy and well done! Oh, and the surgery was perfectly successful!!!!!!!!

Dr. Taban is definitely one of the best in his field. His talent in the operating room and addressing patient specific care has been a phenomenal experience and outcome for my husband. My husband was blind 1 1/2 have years ago due to diabetic complications. With several corrective surgeries and my husband doing his part he has regained a lot of his vision. The staff at Elite Surgery Center is highly skilled and extremely accommodating to all their patients. We were very fortunate to find a local facility that is professional at all stages of care.
