Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

ColonoscopyA flexible camera examines the full length of the colon to screen for cancer and remove polyps before they become cancerous. Done under sedation, it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. The bowel prep the day before is the part most patients find hardest.Upper Endoscopy (EGD)A thin camera passed through the mouth examines the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Used to investigate persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained bleeding, or abdominal pain. Usually takes 15 to 30 minutes under sedation.Flexible SigmoidoscopyExamines the lower portion of the colon only, rather than its full length. Preparation is lighter than a full colonoscopy and sedation is sometimes unnecessary, but it cannot detect problems higher in the colon.Capsule EndoscopyYou swallow a vitamin-sized camera that photographs the small intestine as it passes through — a region that standard scopes cannot easily reach. There is no sedation and no recovery. The capsule passes naturally, and images are reviewed after the fact.ERCPCombines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat blockages in the bile and pancreatic ducts, most often gallstones stuck in a duct. Unlike a routine endoscopy, it carries a meaningful risk of pancreatitis afterward, so it is used when treatment is likely rather than for screening alone.Hemorrhoid TreatmentShrinks or removes swollen veins in the rectum and anus using rubber band ligation, injection, or surgical removal depending on severity. Banding is quick and typically requires no anesthesia; surgical removal is more effective for advanced cases but recovery is noticeably more uncomfortable.

My worst surgery experience ever, and I've had 7. From the grumpy person who greeted me upon entry, to an anesthesiologist who injured my vocal cord, to a discharge nurse who scolded me for not breathing hard enough to get my oxygen saturation up when it was just that pulse oximeter needed repositioning, it was just a horrible day all around. Person who took me back and prepped me was kind and great at her job and fortunately my surgeon was excellent. Ever since surgery there in April 2025 I've had a sore throat and altered voice.

I had cataract surgery on September 19, 2024 at Shoreline Outpatient Surgery Center in Guilford, CT. I want to thank the entire team of professionals who treated me, from the receptionist to the surgeon Dr. Teng. I felt cared for and supported from the first moment. The facilities are very comfortable and very clean. If I had to give an academic grade, it would be an A+ (Excelent performance).

Staff is Impeccable, especially the male receptionist who checked me. He was so nice and put me at ease with his calming demeanor. I was very pleased with my entire stay from arrival to departure. The medical staff was very friendly and thorough. Thank you for a great experience.

I recently had a cataract removed here. The staff were so amusing that I laughed all afternoon. It made me feel as if the surgery was an afterthought--I was there for the entertainment! When I finally had the procedure, it couldn't have gone any better. I had no pain or discomfort of any kind. At every stage of my visit, people seemed determined that my experience would be a positive one. Dr. DeBroff did an outstanding job--I was driving that evening. I highly recommend this facility for cataract surgery.

My experience with the Shoreline Surgery Center couldn't have gone any smoother. From the minute I entered the facility I was treated with the utmost care and compassion. I felt everyone, from the admission desk to the recovery staff, knew me as a person, not just a number on a chart. I had been putting off my surgery for 3 years, suffering with debilitating foot pain. Dr. Peter Blume became my hero when he took my case and performed a very successful operation enabling me to walk without pain for the first time in 3 years. Recovery was swift and my follow-up care was done with the same personal care that followed me from The Shoreline Surgery Center. I would not hesitate to recommend this facility to anyone. I would be a very positive experience.
