Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

ColonoscopyA flexible camera examines the full length of the colon to screen for cancer and remove polyps before they become cancerous. Done under sedation, it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. The bowel prep the day before is the part most patients find hardest.Upper Endoscopy (EGD)A thin camera passed through the mouth examines the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Used to investigate persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained bleeding, or abdominal pain. Usually takes 15 to 30 minutes under sedation.Flexible SigmoidoscopyExamines the lower portion of the colon only, rather than its full length. Preparation is lighter than a full colonoscopy and sedation is sometimes unnecessary, but it cannot detect problems higher in the colon.Capsule EndoscopyYou swallow a vitamin-sized camera that photographs the small intestine as it passes through — a region that standard scopes cannot easily reach. There is no sedation and no recovery. The capsule passes naturally, and images are reviewed after the fact.ERCPCombines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat blockages in the bile and pancreatic ducts, most often gallstones stuck in a duct. Unlike a routine endoscopy, it carries a meaningful risk of pancreatitis afterward, so it is used when treatment is likely rather than for screening alone.Hemorrhoid TreatmentShrinks or removes swollen veins in the rectum and anus using rubber band ligation, injection, or surgical removal depending on severity. Banding is quick and typically requires no anesthesia; surgical removal is more effective for advanced cases but recovery is noticeably more uncomfortable.

Dr Grunwald and the staff at ECC were supportive and listened to my concerns about my procedure and the need to come off of certain medications that I relied on while data was collected on the Bravo device. They offered reassurances and compromises that ensured successful data collection while not causing needless suffering. Thank you!!

The Endoscopy Center invited me in for a “free” initial consultation. I told the office I didn’t see much point to it, and that I absolutely didn’t want to pay out of pocket for a visit. (I have Connecticare with a bid deductible.) The office assured me, repeatedly, it would be free to me. So foolishly I go for the consult. Then of course they turn around and charge me $175 for an unnecessary 15min visit. The worst part is that the Endoscopy Center doesn’t do their own billing. Instead I’ve spent hours on hold and on the phone, dealing with a third party. Now I’m finally paying the $175 in disgust, as the outside billing company is threatening my good credit.

My entire experience here was utterly phenomenal. Kathy, my intake nurse was so friendly and kind. Her maternal nature was so reassuring and she is an absolute gem. I am so grateful for Dr Taylor and his incredible talent and bedside manner. The nurses and anesthesiologists were friendly and professional. Rose and Tatiana were so wonderful, friendly and supportive when I came out of my procedure. Thank you all for making this so much easier!

I recently had an endoscopy and colonoscopy here and I have to say my experience was 10/10. I was incredibly nervous, but the staff talked to me and explained everything in detail and assured me everything would be ok. They seriously went up and beyond to make me feel comfortable, and I know my anxiety makes me a handful. The procedure went smoothly and overall I wouldn’t have gotten through it without the help of the staff and my doctor, Dr. Umashanker, who was also incredibly sweet and supportive.
