I was recently charged nearly $1,000 for a "Facilitation Fee," which was separate from the "Anesthesia Fee." It didn’t come as a shock that I needed to do the procedure—my doctor recommended it to make sure I didn’t have cancer. But the crazy fees? That’s what got me. This came as a shock, especially since I have and pay for health insurance every month through Meritain Health (an Aetna company). The fact that I’m paying for insurance every month, only to be hit with such high out-of-pocket costs, highlights how broken the healthcare system in the U.S. truly is. It’s disheartening to see how difficult and expensive it is to access basic care, even when you’re doing everything "right" by having insurance. The system feels like a joke, and it’s clear that meaningful reform is desperately needed.

They use Anesthesia consultant's of Athens. Look it up before booking. They do not tell you this until the day of your surgery and most insurances will not cover them. The big problem is that the Anesthesia company chose to have 2 Anesthesiologist providers in the room for a simple 10 minute surgery of skin removal on a perfectly healthy patient, so they could double billed me for the Anesthesia. And there is absolutely no one that you can talk to about it. They are suppose to bill for one unless it is a dangerous or prolonged surgery. This was uncalled for and it makes the surgery center look bad. I know there have been previous complaints about this but they continue to use them. When/IF you call to set up anything with them, make sure you ask as you are setting up the appointment who all you will be getting bills from. For a 10 minute surgery we received bills from 3 different “providers”.

Our visit wasn't as great as others have had. We were told that my husband would be allowed one person to go back with him. That was the main reason we agreed to use the Surgery Center instead of having it done at the hospital and it taking 8 hours if not more longer. Once we checked in and he was called back we are told no one else was allowed to go back with him. If they had been straight up front with us when we asked if I would be allowed back with him and was told no then, instead of being told yes that would be no problem, we would have never considered him having an amputation and surgery done here. So if you are an overprotective wife like I am, I would not recommend The Surgery Center because they will not let you be with your spouse until they call you and tell you they are about to discharge and wheel your spouse out to be put in the car.

Everyone was so nice and professional from checking in -to recovery. The nurses, anesthesiologist, Dr Barnes made our visit very pleasant and gave this worried momma so much comfort! Thank You Nurse Ashley for carrying my baby while he sobbed after surgery until we could be with him! I was having so much anxiety but everything was great and would recommend Surgery Center of Athens to everyone!!!

The Surgery Center of Athens gave me a really good experience while I was there. All the nurses and staff were very helpful and extremely kind. I don’t ever leave reviews for places but I felt the need to because they went above and beyond to take care of me and make me as comfortable as possible for my tonsillectomy. I would most definitely recommend anyone looking for somewhere to go for surgery to go here if they offer what you’re needing!! Thank you surgery center of Athens, you helped calm my nerves and took amazing care of me!
