To being with the positive, the two nurses who received me the day of surgery were phenomenal. They put my worries at ease and were very gentle. Their understanding that this was my first surgery truly helped with the anxiety I was feeling. Unfortunately, there were a couple negative instances that truly left an impact. The person who called me the day before surgery was jarringly rude. She called me midday, so I asked for a few seconds to excuse myself from my job. She abruptly responded that she didn’t have the time. During the conversation, she repeatedly told me that my questions were not for her and needed to be directed elsewhere. My questions were all about the logistics of the center, so I’m not sure why she didn’t feel she could help. After my surgery, I was woken up from anestesia and the nurse told me to get dressed to go. I expressed that I was very dizzy and nauseous, but that did not deter her from making me get dressed, putting me in a wheelchair, and making me leave. I expressed again how I did not feel well, but she still made me leave. As someone who had to use crutches post surgery, it was a disaster when I tried to get up to get into my home. I was not ready to even stand, yet was made to go before I could. Overall, this was my first and only surgery, so perhaps my perspective is too personal. It seemed that some of the staff were not mindful that this experience is nerve wracking for patients, and perhaps showing a bit more patience and grace is something worth considering.
The staff was professional and caring, however, the wait to have my cataract surgery was excessive. I sat in the lobby over 2 hours before being taken to be prepared for surgery. There has to be a better way
They said they would call one business day before my surgery to tell me what time to be there. It was 3 pm and I hadn't yet received the call so I called them. One option on the phone sent me where it said the mailbox was full and it wasn't receiving any more messages. The next call (transfer from KP) I have been on hold for 45 minutes and still no one is answering. Horrible customer service. I still don't know what time I am supposed to be there, the surgery was scheduled 3 months ago and at that time they said 7:30 am, but you know how these things are.
Besides my actual doctor, I felt that much of the staff acted unprofessionally during my visit. When I first arrived, the front office administrator greeted me with disbelief and dismissed the information I had previously been given about payment. I was told that what I had been told was wrong and that I needed to pay the full cost of the surgery upfront, which was very frustrating. In addition, my interaction with one of the nurses felt uncomfortable. Instead of properly taking my height, she made comments questioning it based only on what I said. The way she interacted with me came across as if she was trying to flirt, which felt unprofessional and out of place. The overall energy of the encounter left me feeling uneasy when all I wanted was to prepare for my surgery. While I appreciate my doctor’s professionalism, I truly hope the rest of the staff can improve on their communication and professionalism moving forward.
I had the best experience here with getting my tonsils removed yesterday. The front desk staff was so kind and funny. Every. Single. Nurse. Was the sweetest to me and so caring. My surgeon Dr. Aden and my anesthesiologist were wonderful and answered all my questions and made me feel really positive despite being very nervous. I would recommend this center to anyone!- Madison Kuhlman
