Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

Cataract SurgeryThe clouded natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with a clear artificial one. It is one of the most common outpatient procedures performed in the country, usually takes under 30 minutes per eye, and is done under light sedation with numbing drops rather than general anesthesia.LASIK / Refractive SurgeryA laser reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, reducing dependence on glasses or contacts. The procedure itself takes minutes per eye. Vision is often noticeably better within a day, though it can take several weeks to fully stabilize.Glaucoma SurgeryCreates a new drainage path for fluid inside the eye to lower internal pressure. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve silently, so the goal is preventing further vision loss rather than restoring vision already lost. Several minimally invasive options are now performed in outpatient settings.Retinal SurgeryRepairs the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye, most often for a detached or torn retina, or for bleeding related to diabetes. Timing matters — a detaching retina is treated urgently because delay increases the risk of permanent vision loss.Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)Removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. When drooping upper lids block part of the visual field, the procedure is functional rather than cosmetic and is often covered by insurance if visual field testing documents the obstruction.Corneal TransplantReplaces damaged or clouded corneal tissue with donor tissue. Modern techniques often replace only the affected layer rather than the full thickness, which shortens recovery. Vision improves gradually over months, and stitches may stay in place for a year or longer.

The staff treated us with excellent care. They provided a professional eye exam and utilized their tablets to provide a an interpreter, which made the process very accessible. They also helped us select a new pair of glasses that met all our needs. We are very satisfied with the service we received! Again,Thank you to the staff for the great service!

Everyone ion this office is so nice and professional. It’s a very organized well run , well staffed office. I have been seeing Dr. Bennett Sims , the dry eye specialist lately and first of all I never even knew there was such a thing before seeing her and I feel she is very knowledgeable, very thorough and spends time hearing my concerns. I have never felt rushed through no matter who I have seen though. I highly recommend this very nicely decorated office and they even offer treats , lemon water and coffee in the lobby.

All Staff members were friendly and helpful. Dr. David Carlin was very professional. He offered treatment options for my 89 year old Father that had not previously been brought to our attention by his previous, long-time doctor. Dad is very pleased with his new doctor and hopeful for improvement with his sight.

I’ve been going to Carlin Vision for over 15 years, and the level of service has remained outstanding from day one. The doctors and staff are consistently professional, courteous, and genuinely kind. The office is always very clean, warm, and inviting, which makes every visit comfortable. Dr. Blake Thornhill has been my doctor for many years, and he is very thorough in explaining what is going on with my vision. He takes the time to discuss any issues or concerns and offers clear recommendations to help me stay on top of my eye care. I truly appreciate his knowledge, patience, and dedication. I’ve recommended Carlin Vision to family members and friends over the years, and they still go there themselves—some for many years now. That alone speaks volumes! If you’re looking for quality eye care with a hometown touch, this is the place. I highly recommend Carlin Vision!

We had an excellent experience with Dr. Richard Carlin. As new patients, we were immediately impressed by his calm, patient, and caring approach. Dr. Carlin truly takes his time during the exam, never rushing, always explaining each step, and making sure we fully understood everything. His expertise is evident from the moment he begins the evaluation, and he pays close attention to detail in a way that gives you complete confidence in his care. It’s refreshing to find an ophthalmologist who combines deep medical knowledge with genuine compassion. We felt welcomed, heard, and exceptionally well taken care of. We highly recommend Dr. Richard Carlin to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, thorough, and kind eye specialist.
