I was seen here on 12/23 for knee surgery. My experience was mostly positive but there were a few things I feel patients should know going in. When I spoke with my surgeons pre op nurse, I informed her that I was a survivor of sexual assault and requested to keep my underwear on for routine knee surgery which she said would not be an issue at all. When the tech brought me back (she was not a nurse) she told me that was unacceptable and gave me mesh underpants. I also informed her of my past and requested a sensitive approach to care. She was dismissive. She gave me one gown, that barely closed in the back. When I requested another for the back she gave me a sheet instead. She then led me to a preop bay. She didn’t even bother to close the curtain before pulling the front pf my gown down and nearly exposing my breasts for all to see as she attached chest pads for heart monitor. My preop nurse, Patricia then came in and was much more sensitive to my request. She was kind. I realize this is just another day for them, but meeting patients halfway, especially when they request a level of trauma informed care shouldn’t be difficult. My hope is that the technician who first treated me reads this and takes a more compassionate and understanding approach to women in my situation moving forward. My anaesthesiologist was wonderful. He was respectful and compassionate. His nurse was a bit rough with the oxygen mask. Again maybe it was because it was a day before the holiday and things were rushed. But my experience here was mixed. Not sure if I would recommend or return.

I am incredibly grateful to the entire team at Northwestern Medicine for the outstanding care I received during my eyelid surgery on December 10, 2025. From the very first moments, I felt supported, calm, and genuinely cared for. The nursing team was exceptional throughout the entire experience. Lisa, RN, my pre-op nurse, clearly explained every step, answered all of my questions, and helped me feel fully prepared and at ease. Amanda, RN, was gentle, kind, and reassuring during pre-operative preparation, and Patricia, RN, provided warm and attentive care during recovery, making the post-operative experience feel safe and comfortable. The anesthesia care provided by Dr. Mia C. Garino was excellent. She personally came to speak with me before surgery, explained what sensations I might experience, and reassured me that she would be monitoring me closely and adjust the anesthesia if needed. Her calm and reassuring approach made me feel completely safe and at ease throughout the entire procedure. My deepest gratitude goes to my surgeon, Dr. Liza M. Cohen. She is a true professional in her field, and her confidence, precision, and expertise were evident at every step. Before surgery, she personally came to check on me, asked how I was feeling, and made sure I was ready and comfortable. After the procedure, she came back again to see how I was doing and to ensure I felt well and reassured. Her attentiveness and genuine care meant more to me than I can put into words. I am truly grateful that I was referred to such an exceptional doctor. I am also very thankful to the assisting residents, Dr. Shivani A. Shah and Dr. Gina M. Johnson, for their professionalism and care. They each took the time to speak with me individually before surgery and made sure everything was clear. Their attention and care added greatly to my sense of trust and comfort. Today, when I look in the mirror, I can hardly believe that it is really me. This team helped me regain not only my confidence, but also a part of myself I had been missing. I will always remember this experience and this incredible team with warmth in my heart and tears in my eyes. Thanks to them, my life truly changed. Thank you for your dedication, compassion, and the meaningful impact you make on people’s lives every single day! 🙏🏻❤️

We paid in advance on the day of the cataract eye surgery for each procedure on my husband and was than rebilled for the work done an additional charge. We reached out, appealed the claim and now the number is disconnected. We have no way of speaking to anyone concerning this matter.

Had a great experience at River North Same Day Surgery. The staff was really caring and attentive. Many of the negative reviews on here have to do with people not understanding their insurance plans and coverage and nothing to do with the actual care provided by the staff. I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience. Yes, I had to pay what wasn't covered by my insurance prior to my procedure and that's to be expected. Shout out to Debbie and Mary Beth who made the pre and post op easy and also put up with my post anesthesia antics of curse words, not using my inside voice, and wanting all of the pop and chips ahoy cookies 😂

Not sure why the reviews are so bad. Recently went in for cataract surgery and everyone from reception to the discharge nurse was very friendly and accommodating. Timing for everything was generally as communicated, the facility was sterile, tidy and efficient. The pre-op nurses were all very friendly, Caitlin was especially attentive and comforting. Would happily recommend.
