Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

Epidural Steroid InjectionsSteroid medication is injected near irritated spinal nerve roots to calm inflammation causing sciatica or arm pain. Often used to make physical therapy tolerable rather than as a standalone cure. There are limits on how frequently they can be repeated.Nerve Block InjectionsAnesthetic, sometimes with steroid, is injected around a specific nerve to interrupt pain signals. Used both to treat pain and to identify its source, since relief from a precisely placed block points to the nerve responsible.Radiofrequency AblationHeat generated by radio waves disables the small nerves carrying pain signals from an arthritic spinal joint. Relief commonly lasts six months to two years. Because the nerves regenerate over time, the procedure can be repeated.Spinal Cord StimulationA device delivers mild electrical pulses to the spinal cord to interrupt chronic pain signals before they reach the brain. A temporary trial period is done first, so you can judge the benefit before committing to a permanent implant.Joint InjectionsSteroid or lubricating medication is injected directly into an arthritic or inflamed joint. Image guidance is often used to confirm placement. Relief typically lasts weeks to months and can make physical therapy more productive.Trigger Point InjectionsA local anesthetic is injected into a taut, tender knot of muscle to break the spasm-and-pain cycle. The appointment takes minutes and you can usually return to normal activity the same day.

I would use Dr. Jefson and the Lafayette Surgical Center for any general surgery I have in the future. He is incredibly personable and caring in his approach to patient care. At the pre-surgery consultation, he was clearly giving me his full attention as he listened to all of my concerns. He spent time thoroughly explaining what the issue was and how the surgery would repair it. I asked many questions, and he patiently answered them in depth, but at a level I could understand. By the end, I had no more questions, and I felt comfortable with the upcoming surgery. When my wife and I arrived to the Surgical Center on the morning of the surgery, we found all of the staff to be not only clearly professional, but also friendly and encouraging. This made us feel comfortable going into surgery. In the same way, Dr. Jefson met with my wife and I just before surgery. He covered post-operative expectations and again patiently answered all of our questions showing genuine concern that both of us were comfortable with the procedure. The recovery room experience matched the rest of our dealings with Lafayette Surgical Center: We felt that we were truly cared for, that we received clear procedural expectations, that we were respected, and that we were treated professionally.
