Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

Epidural Steroid InjectionsSteroid medication is injected near irritated spinal nerve roots to calm inflammation causing sciatica or arm pain. Often used to make physical therapy tolerable rather than as a standalone cure. There are limits on how frequently they can be repeated.Nerve Block InjectionsAnesthetic, sometimes with steroid, is injected around a specific nerve to interrupt pain signals. Used both to treat pain and to identify its source, since relief from a precisely placed block points to the nerve responsible.Radiofrequency AblationHeat generated by radio waves disables the small nerves carrying pain signals from an arthritic spinal joint. Relief commonly lasts six months to two years. Because the nerves regenerate over time, the procedure can be repeated.Spinal Cord StimulationA device delivers mild electrical pulses to the spinal cord to interrupt chronic pain signals before they reach the brain. A temporary trial period is done first, so you can judge the benefit before committing to a permanent implant.Joint InjectionsSteroid or lubricating medication is injected directly into an arthritic or inflamed joint. Image guidance is often used to confirm placement. Relief typically lasts weeks to months and can make physical therapy more productive.Trigger Point InjectionsA local anesthetic is injected into a taut, tender knot of muscle to break the spasm-and-pain cycle. The appointment takes minutes and you can usually return to normal activity the same day.
Bunion Correction (Bunionectomy)The bony prominence at the base of the big toe is removed and the bone realigned, often with screws or plates. Recovery involves weeks in a protective shoe or boot, and swelling can persist for several months.Hammertoe CorrectionA toe permanently bent at the middle joint is straightened, sometimes with a temporary pin holding the correction. Considered when the toe rubs painfully in shoes or has developed calluses and sores.Plantar Fascia ReleaseThe tight band of tissue along the bottom of the foot is partially released to relieve stubborn heel pain. Reserved for cases that have not improved after months of stretching, orthotics, and other conservative treatment.Ankle ArthroscopyA small camera and instruments treat problems inside the ankle joint — impingement, loose fragments, or damaged cartilage — through incisions a few millimeters wide, avoiding a larger open exposure.Ingrown Toenail RemovalThe edge of a nail growing into the surrounding skin is removed under local anesthesia. When the problem keeps recurring, the nail-forming tissue at that edge is also treated so it does not grow back.Foot Fracture RepairBroken bones in the foot are realigned and stabilized with hardware so they heal in position. Because the foot bears your full weight with every step, alignment matters more here than the small bone size suggests.

I had an ACDF surgery. Dr Schmitz was great to answer all my questions and even called me at home the day before surgery. Who does that? Very thankful. I spent 1 night at River Hills and the surgical team and daytime nurses were wonderful.

Dr. Trout and his team went above and beyond to manage my pain. From the very beginning, they listened attentively to all my concerns. His reconstructive surgery on my heel was incredible, and I highly recommend him to anyone in need of a surgeon with exceptional skills, not just in the operating room, but also in the also highly critical moments in listening to concerns, and developing a comprehensive plan for the best outcome. I never felt rushed during any of my visits to his office. Brad, Dr. Trout’s RN, is also an excellent listener, attentive to my concerns, and precise in documenting crucial notes which I believe are highly important to carry All concerns properly documented for any referrals, reading and revisiting the plan, and insuring everything that’s been spoken in the office was fully appreciated and annotated. Ms. McKenna, I want to express my deepest gratitude for truly understanding the immense pain I’m enduring and the care and support you provided for me and my family today. Thank you to the anesthesiologist for managing the immense pain I arrived with. The pain I arrived in is literally close to as the current post surgical pain with the local anesthesia injection. The Pain generated above my Foot is the same level of pain I have on the upper portion of my leg and so I thank you so much. I thank you sir, for taking care of me. A Huge thanks to all the Iowa Ortho teams and Dr. Trout for never letting me down or losing hope and taking such good care of me throughout the last couple of years. I highly recommend Dr. Brian Trout and his team. I sincerely Thank you. Happy holidays and happy New Year’s. Praying for the best healing for all patients. Very respectfully, SSG N. The surgery center is beautiful and has all the latest technology. Staff is very capable and effective at their job tasks. The whole experience ran smoothly. Surgeries always feel so procedural. More individualized attention from the same staff member would make the experience so much better. I had several different nursing staff from beginning to end. That may be efficient but makes the experience much less patient-centered.

Made my momma heart feel so much better as my daughter underwent another surgery. I've been in healthcare for 25 years, highly recommend!!
