Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

Cataract SurgeryThe clouded natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with a clear artificial one. It is one of the most common outpatient procedures performed in the country, usually takes under 30 minutes per eye, and is done under light sedation with numbing drops rather than general anesthesia.LASIK / Refractive SurgeryA laser reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, reducing dependence on glasses or contacts. The procedure itself takes minutes per eye. Vision is often noticeably better within a day, though it can take several weeks to fully stabilize.Glaucoma SurgeryCreates a new drainage path for fluid inside the eye to lower internal pressure. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve silently, so the goal is preventing further vision loss rather than restoring vision already lost. Several minimally invasive options are now performed in outpatient settings.Retinal SurgeryRepairs the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye, most often for a detached or torn retina, or for bleeding related to diabetes. Timing matters โ€” a detaching retina is treated urgently because delay increases the risk of permanent vision loss.Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)Removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. When drooping upper lids block part of the visual field, the procedure is functional rather than cosmetic and is often covered by insurance if visual field testing documents the obstruction.Corneal TransplantReplaces damaged or clouded corneal tissue with donor tissue. Modern techniques often replace only the affected layer rather than the full thickness, which shortens recovery. Vision improves gradually over months, and stitches may stay in place for a year or longer.

Based on my recent experience, all of the staff at Commonwealth Eye Surgery was great. I am extremely complimentary of Andrea in the billing department. She was very professional, knowledgeable, and answered all my billing questions regarding the cost of LASIK. Hope to schedule my surgery soon!!!

I came in for an evaluation for eye surgery. Dr. Smith was great. In addition to his medical expertise, he also had a true understanding for what I was experiencing, and how eye surgery would affect my quality of life. He took the time to carefully and completely answer all my questions and address all of my concerns. The rest of the staff I interacted with were all amazing, too. Everyone was knowledgeable and kind. I never felt pressured or rushed, and the whole experience was easy and seamless.

The procedure went smoothly, and there were no issues with the process. The entire staff from the people that greet you when you enter, and the staff that explains what is going to happen as they do their work were extremely sympathetic which helped me get ready for the surgery. The results turned out better than they said it would. I was told that distance vision would be restored but that I might need reading glasses for small close up details. Somehow, I don't need any glasses at all! Their process turned back the clock forty years for me!!!

I was referred to CES for a cataract removal consult. Everyone was very nice and friendly. Dr. Findley took time to discuss my exam results with me and explain the options I had available. He treated me as though I was the only patient he had that day. He was calming and reassuring. When reviewing the cost and options, I never felt pressured to pick one option over the other or to rush through my decision. I had a very good experience here and would highly recommend them.
