University of Maryland Orthopaedics Review November 11, 2025--December 3, 2025 The last several weeks saw me make three separate appointments with the University of Maryland Orthopaedics, the first with its location on Schilling Circle, at Hunt Valley, the last two on Waterloo Road in Ellicott City. The issues involve degenerative disk issues involving my neck and back. The first appointment was with Dr. Steven Ludwig, an absolute first-rate doctor and professional; I also met a Dr. Logan Kenney, who was equally terrific, both of whom have a warm, welcoming nature about them. After a warm welcome, I was escorted to the patient service area by a technician for blood pressure reading, xrays, etc. Dr. Kenney saw me initially and reviewed my physical issues with regard to the painful disk areas, charts, and MRI’s. He provided information to Dr. Ludwig, who was finishing up seeing other patients. Dr. Ludwig was also courteous, thorough, and knowledgeable, As he reviewed x-rays and MRI’s, he had me stand with outstretched arms, checking my nerve responses and balance, clarifying his medical opinion of my cervical stenosis and lumbar conditions, providing useful perspective and options in treating both areas. It was recommended to take a conservative stance on treatments to evaluate how effective each successive recommended treatment would be toward the goal of pain relief. Among the first options recommended was to be examined and treated, via nerve block injection into the cervical area, by one Dr. Jay Karri, affiliated with the University of Maryland Orthopaedics Ambulatory Surgery Center, in Ellicott City. I met with Dr. Karri and staff, where I received two separate appointments that included separate nerve block injections over a two-week period. I also found Dr. Karri to be an equally first-rate professional, who provided top-shelf care and concern, regarding my neck and back issue. Again, I found the entire staff to be most welcoming and caring about their patients, from the receptionist (Yanni) to the intake nurse (Ronnie), as well as the two nurses (Donna and Stephen) assisting Dr, Karri with the procedure, as well as the nurse (Katie) handling the post-procedure responsibilities, all of whom were completely on top of their job professionally, showing genuine kindness and caring to their patients. In a world today, where we too often encounter laziness and incompetency, it’s refreshing to know that there are first-rate individuals who much care about and respect themselves and their profession, holding themselves to a high standard daily. When in need of orthopaedic treatment, look no further than the University of Maryland Orthopaedics medical establishment Stephen Wallis
