Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

Knee ArthroscopyA camera and small instruments are inserted through incisions the size of a buttonhole to repair cartilage, trim a torn meniscus, or remove loose fragments. Because the joint is not opened fully, recovery is far faster than traditional open knee surgery.Shoulder ArthroscopyUses a small camera and instruments through tiny incisions to repair the shoulder joint — commonly for impingement, labral tears, or damaged cartilage. Most patients go home the same day and begin physical therapy within the first week.ACL ReconstructionRebuilds the torn anterior cruciate ligament using a graft, since a fully torn ACL does not heal on its own. The surgery itself is outpatient, but returning to cutting and pivoting sports typically takes nine to twelve months of structured rehabilitation.Rotator Cuff RepairReattaches torn tendons in the shoulder to the bone. Pain relief often comes well before strength does — a sling is typical for several weeks and full recovery commonly takes four to six months, with physical therapy doing much of the work.Carpal Tunnel ReleaseCuts the ligament pressing on the median nerve at the wrist to relieve numbness, tingling, and night pain in the hand. The procedure takes about 15 minutes under local anesthesia. Night symptoms often improve immediately; grip strength returns over several weeks.Joint ReplacementDamaged joint surfaces are replaced with implants, most commonly at the knee or hip. Once exclusively a hospital procedure, selected healthy patients now have this done at surgery centers and go home the same day with a structured recovery plan.

The staff are extremely rude, unprofessional, and condescending. The communication about what to expect was nonexistent. I was the designated driver for my husband, and the nurses were not only rude to me in front of the whole waiting room about leaving the room to use the bathroom, but they openly mocked another patient's driver for asking if they were supposed to accompany their husband back to pre-op, and how long to expect surgery to be. The doctor was surpringly polite, but the nurses were the most horrible medical staff I have EVER had the displeasure of dealing with. I cannot express how poor of an experience I had with the nursing staff.

Dr. Forthman is the best hand, elbow, and shoulder surgeon I know. I highly recommend him. Good group of folks there @ Lutherville surgicenter. Pleasant, professional, and courteous. Thank you! Charlie

My experience here was excellent. There was good communication before surgery, and the day of the surgery the staff was efficient and friendly. The nurse, anesthesiologist, and doctor all took time to explain what they were going to do, and relieved any anxiety I was having about the procedure.

Care was good during my procedure but watch out for the billing and front desk. They made me prepay $560, no problem. After checking into the financials a month later I found out I(including insurance)overpaid by $400. I don't think they would have ever refunded money if I hadn't caught it myself.

Terrible uncompassionate nurses, very cold they made me very uncomfortable. The anesthesiologist was very informative on what he was doing. The tech Aniya was so sweet, if it was not for her I would have not made it through the surgery. - anonymous
