The doctor, nurses, & staff were efficient and caring.everyone I came in contact with introduced themselves, explained their role in my procedure, and made sure I was comfortable knowing what was going on. Each person that came after the doctor verified limb, side, & doctor’s signature on the correct location of my surgery. After surgery was over they made sure I was alert, not dizzy, feeling ok. They heard my concerns and adjusted everything that needed to be done to make me more comfortable. They didn’t keep longer than necessary. They were very attentive and caring. I had a great stay during and after my procedure. Thank you 😊 Dr. Gelfand, Stephanie, Shaley, & Jamie were the best. I don’t remember my anesthesiologist name but she was amazing I didn’t feel woozy nor any side effects after waking up. She gave me just enough to get the job done. Thank you all again for the professionalism and wonderful care you all gave me & my husband (driver/caregiver).

The doctors and staff where phenomenal ! However, the billing was unfortunately not correct. I as unaware that I would be owing $9,000 for a procedure. When my husband and I initially came in we were told that we were good to go and insurance would pay. So when I received a bill I was a bit confused.

Quality of work is good but the billing is absolutely atrocious. They bill upfront based on what you they think your insurance is going to cover. Once insurance pays them (they are now paid twice) they need to get management approval to refund any difference there maybe. In my case they billed my insurance $10K (for the bed I guess?) vs $2k for both the Dr. and Anesthesiologist. I was there for maybe 4 hours so I would avoid this place like the plague if you can and opt for surgery at the hospital instead.

This review does not reflect AAMC doctors and nurses - they are amazing and are the best. This review addresses the insurance and billing of AAMC Pavilion - Pasadena. This location is not owned by AAMC although the name, signage, etc. reflects it. It is actually owned by physicians who are partners in that surgery center (info is on AAMC website under AAMC locations). While all the info reflects AAMC, their insurance and billing procedures do not. AAMC will bill your insurance and then send you a bill for the balance, this surgery center will require your copay in advance, at check-in on the day of your surgery. Surgery was scheduled 6 weeks earlier yet we were contacted 5 days prior to surgery and advised that we were to bring $1,500 on the day of surgery, along with I.D. and insurance card. AAMC's website lists that they offer the 'ClearBalance® program, which is a patient-friendly payment option. The program is a zero-interest revolving credit account with flexible payment terms. Use the ClearBalance® program to manage your out-of-pocket expenses, including deductibles and insurance copayments, for care at our health system". With that information in mind, my husband took a check with him on the day of surgery as a down payment, with the intent of using this payment option. Our check was refused - he needed to pay $1,500 and the minimum that would be accepted was over $1,100 (75% of the co-pay) and that we could use the ClearBalance program for the remaining amount due. It was implied that the surgery would be cancelled if this payment was not made. My husband has needed this surgery for 2 years, his December surgery date had been cancelled, had been in extreme pain, alone and was anxious over the upcoming surgery. We had no choice but to pay. AAMC's Patient Advocacy contacted this surgery center on our behalf and was told that they are "Affiliated" with AAMC (as in John Hopkins is affiliated with AAMC) and as such, they have their own insurance and billing procedures. Under AAMC's website for the Pasadena location, there is a section that says * Disclosure of Owners. It says You have the right to choose the provider of your health care services. You also have the right to choose the facility where those services will be provided." We were not given the choice of locations. Had we been told that we could choose the Annapolis facility and be billed after insurance or use the Pasadena facility and pay $1,500 upfront before the surgery and before billing, we would have used the Annapolis location. This information needs to be disclosed to patients, mainly the financial aspect. Everything is listed as AAMC, even the credit card charge reflects AAMC Surgery Center. This is deceptive and needs to be addressed. We don't care who owns the building but if you're using the name of AAMC, the billing and insurance should reflect their practices as well.
