Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

HysteroscopyA slim camera passed through the cervix examines the inside of the uterus, and can remove polyps or fibroids in the same visit. No abdominal incision is involved. Cramping for a day or two afterward is normal.LaparoscopyA camera and instruments are inserted through small abdominal incisions, allowing diagnosis and treatment without a large open incision. Used for endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and pelvic pain, with recovery measured in days rather than weeks.D&C (Dilation and Curettage)The cervix is dilated and the uterine lining removed, for heavy bleeding, after a miscarriage, or to obtain tissue for diagnosis. The procedure takes 10 to 15 minutes and most people return to normal activity within a day or two.Tubal LigationThe fallopian tubes are sealed, cut, or removed to provide permanent contraception. It should be considered irreversible — reversal is not reliably successful, so it is intended for people certain they do not want future pregnancy.Endometrial AblationThe uterine lining is destroyed to reduce or stop heavy menstrual bleeding, offering an alternative to hysterectomy. It is not a contraceptive, and it is only appropriate for those who have completed childbearing.Ovarian Cyst RemovalA persistent, enlarging, or painful ovarian cyst is removed, usually laparoscopically. Surgeons generally aim to remove the cyst while preserving the ovary itself, particularly for patients who may want future pregnancy.
ColonoscopyA flexible camera examines the full length of the colon to screen for cancer and remove polyps before they become cancerous. Done under sedation, it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. The bowel prep the day before is the part most patients find hardest.Upper Endoscopy (EGD)A thin camera passed through the mouth examines the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Used to investigate persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained bleeding, or abdominal pain. Usually takes 15 to 30 minutes under sedation.Flexible SigmoidoscopyExamines the lower portion of the colon only, rather than its full length. Preparation is lighter than a full colonoscopy and sedation is sometimes unnecessary, but it cannot detect problems higher in the colon.Capsule EndoscopyYou swallow a vitamin-sized camera that photographs the small intestine as it passes through — a region that standard scopes cannot easily reach. There is no sedation and no recovery. The capsule passes naturally, and images are reviewed after the fact.ERCPCombines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat blockages in the bile and pancreatic ducts, most often gallstones stuck in a duct. Unlike a routine endoscopy, it carries a meaningful risk of pancreatitis afterward, so it is used when treatment is likely rather than for screening alone.Hemorrhoid TreatmentShrinks or removes swollen veins in the rectum and anus using rubber band ligation, injection, or surgical removal depending on severity. Banding is quick and typically requires no anesthesia; surgical removal is more effective for advanced cases but recovery is noticeably more uncomfortable.

I want to thank Dr. Resta and the Surgery Center staff for their amazing care on my surgery!! The front desk was friendly and smooth check-in. My nurse and anesthesia was so careful and sweet. I felt like I was at the spa. I never felt as though I was getting surgery. I was recommended to Dr. Resta and I will make sure to recommend him. My scars are almost gone. He’s fantastic!! Thank you to the entire team!!

We had our son’s circumcision at the MD surgery center and had a great experience. Staff were very kind, caring, and professional. Dr. Lizardo was fantastic and the nurses we met made us feel very comfortable and explained exactly how the procedure would go and what to expect/how to care for our son afterwards. Highly recommend this surgery center!

I recently had my surgery at Maryland Surgery Center, and I can't express enough how grateful I am for the incredible care I received. I was extremely nervous going in, but from the moment I arrived, the entire staff made me feel safe, supported, and truly cared for. A huge shoutout to Samantha—I asked her a million questions leading up to the procedure, and she answered every one with patience and kindness. When I arrived, giving her a big hug felt like hugging a friend. She was my rock and helped ease so much of my anxiety. Dr. Snoddy, the anesthesiologist, was absolutely amazing. She made me feel completely at ease and safe—her calm and reassuring presence was everything I needed in that moment. And one of my nurses, Keva was the sweetest soul. Her gentle care and warmth made a huge difference in my experience. Sometimes in life, we don’t get to choose the circumstances we face—but when we’re in vulnerable situations like surgery, life has a way of sending us angels. That’s exactly what the team at Maryland Surgery Center felt like: angels on earth. I highly recommend this surgery center to anyone needing care. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who made my surgery feel like just another day—calm, safe, and surrounded by compassion. 💙 With all my love, Priya

From the front desk lady, to my doctor, to the nurses, to the anesthesiologist, to the OR nurses to getting discharged. Felt comfortable welcomed and very well taken cared of especially after a loss like mine and having to get surgery for it, I was really anxious and a nervous wreck but they really helped me feel less worried. I really appreciate everyone in the center! They were all nice & friendly. It was clean and had a very calming atmosphere over all. Thank you all.

The service at this place is amazing. Starting with the receptionist, to the nurses, and doctors. I really really had a great experience. I was kept well informed about the procedure I was been done. Dr. Linsey Vaginally did an awesome job. Also the Anastasia gentleman was very friendly. I totally would recommend 100% this place to my family and friends. By the way the procedure they did was to remove my uterus.
