Our experience with Denville Surgery Center was a mix of excellent medical care and terrible billing issues. The doctors and staff were great, and we felt our sons received quality care during their tonsil surgeries. However, the billing process was a nightmare. Because the procedures happened right after our insurance deductible reset, we had to pay $5,200 upfront. While a payment plan was supposedly set up to draw from our HSA, it only worked for one child’s account. To make matters worse, the third party billing company they use had a data breach just after the surgery. We received scam calls, followed by legitimate ones we assumed were scams. By the time we realized the real bills were due, we were nearly sent to collections. Even after making a $500 payment from our HSA (all that was in there at the time), we still ended up in collections. We made multiple calls to the surgery center asking for help, but were told the situation was out of their control. They had no clear understanding of what the third-party billing or collection companies were doing, which left us completely in the dark. It was a frustrating and stressful experience that is still on going and it overshadowed the quality of care.
