Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

ColonoscopyA flexible camera examines the full length of the colon to screen for cancer and remove polyps before they become cancerous. Done under sedation, it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. The bowel prep the day before is the part most patients find hardest.Upper Endoscopy (EGD)A thin camera passed through the mouth examines the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Used to investigate persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained bleeding, or abdominal pain. Usually takes 15 to 30 minutes under sedation.Flexible SigmoidoscopyExamines the lower portion of the colon only, rather than its full length. Preparation is lighter than a full colonoscopy and sedation is sometimes unnecessary, but it cannot detect problems higher in the colon.Capsule EndoscopyYou swallow a vitamin-sized camera that photographs the small intestine as it passes through — a region that standard scopes cannot easily reach. There is no sedation and no recovery. The capsule passes naturally, and images are reviewed after the fact.ERCPCombines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat blockages in the bile and pancreatic ducts, most often gallstones stuck in a duct. Unlike a routine endoscopy, it carries a meaningful risk of pancreatitis afterward, so it is used when treatment is likely rather than for screening alone.Hemorrhoid TreatmentShrinks or removes swollen veins in the rectum and anus using rubber band ligation, injection, or surgical removal depending on severity. Banding is quick and typically requires no anesthesia; surgical removal is more effective for advanced cases but recovery is noticeably more uncomfortable.

Started receiving text about confirming my appointment on Feb 4 2026. Received last text Sunday about colonoscopy prep which I had already started. Up all night with the prep , got up at 4;00 am to be there at 5:30. Arrived at the office 5:15 and no one was there. Then a nice gentleman shows up around 5:50 to tell me Dr.Vernon was out of country and there were no procedures today. Received a phone call around 10:00 am telling me they had to cancel my appointment. They stressed how important it was for me to reschedule, I think if they were that concerned they would have called prior. DO NOT TRUST THEIR AUTOMATED SYSTEM. I lost a days wages and a whole day on Sunday for nothing. I know we get charged for not showing up for a scheduled appointment I believe I deserve to be paid for my time I wasted based on their appointment scheduling.

Well I would love to leave a glowing review, but apparently you have to be royalty to get an appointment. I have called their office on 5 different occasions, and no one EVER answers the phone. I even sent a fax asking someone to call me, and never received a call. My husband and I have platinum health insurance, and were looking forward to establishing ourselves with GI Guy based on their alleged reputation. We live in Fuquay, and were excited to find a reputable GI doctor close to our home. But if you can't even speak to a human being or make an appointment, I don't understand what kind of business they are supposedly running. Extremely disappointing to say the least.

This is a well-oiled machine!! I was constantly communicated with through their text messaging system. They gave me a courtesy call on the day of my procedure to tell me that it was time for me to leave to arrive on time. My procedure was scheduled for 12pm. I was being rolled into the procedure room by 12:04pm. I was roused from my slumber around 12:16pm and in the car by 12:30pm. Dr. Vernon was extremely nice and cordial. He was very detailed and patient. My wife and I didn't feel rushed and well attended to. The staff was extremely nice and welcoming. If I could compare and contrast this experience, I would say that this doctor's office is like the Chik fil a of doctors' offices. The only thing that they are lacking is the "My pleasure." statement once they are finished. ISSUES: These weren't extremely pressing issues but issues non the less. 1. I was prompted to pay a bill a second time, and when I called to rectify, the receptionist couldn't provide me with details on what my balance was. Her response was that another organization handles billing. 2. My feet were cold!!!! They didn't have warming blankets to keep you warm in the cold office. But keep in mind.......I wasn't waiting very long before I was on my way back for my procedure.

I recently had a colonoscopy performed by Dr. Vernon, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel comfortable and at ease — something that’s especially appreciated for a procedure that can feel a little intimidating. Dr. Vernon took the time to explain everything clearly before and after the procedure, answering all my questions with patience and kindness. The procedure itself was smooth, quick, and completely professional. I felt genuinely cared for, not just like another patient on the schedule. The follow-up communication was also excellent. Dr. Vernon made sure I understood my results and next steps, and I left feeling confident about my health. I highly recommend Dr. Vernon and their team to anyone in need of a colonoscopy or gastrointestinal care — they combine medical expertise with compassion and a truly calming bedside manner.
