Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

ColonoscopyA flexible camera examines the full length of the colon to screen for cancer and remove polyps before they become cancerous. Done under sedation, it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. The bowel prep the day before is the part most patients find hardest.Upper Endoscopy (EGD)A thin camera passed through the mouth examines the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Used to investigate persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained bleeding, or abdominal pain. Usually takes 15 to 30 minutes under sedation.Flexible SigmoidoscopyExamines the lower portion of the colon only, rather than its full length. Preparation is lighter than a full colonoscopy and sedation is sometimes unnecessary, but it cannot detect problems higher in the colon.Capsule EndoscopyYou swallow a vitamin-sized camera that photographs the small intestine as it passes through — a region that standard scopes cannot easily reach. There is no sedation and no recovery. The capsule passes naturally, and images are reviewed after the fact.ERCPCombines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat blockages in the bile and pancreatic ducts, most often gallstones stuck in a duct. Unlike a routine endoscopy, it carries a meaningful risk of pancreatitis afterward, so it is used when treatment is likely rather than for screening alone.Hemorrhoid TreatmentShrinks or removes swollen veins in the rectum and anus using rubber band ligation, injection, or surgical removal depending on severity. Banding is quick and typically requires no anesthesia; surgical removal is more effective for advanced cases but recovery is noticeably more uncomfortable.

Dr. Boswell and all of the staff are wonderful! Everyone is so kind! Dr. Boswell has helped me with a couple of issues, that I’ve been dealing with forever, that no one took the time to see why! Dr. Boswell has my sincere gratitude! Alice, my favorite Rn, is the absolute best!! I ALWAYS have a rough time with IV’s, and she got my IV in on the first try! That RARELY happens, and I really appreciate her compassion and care, and listening to me when I explained my “yucky” veins!

This was a positive experience right from the start. It was my 2nd colonoscopy and could not have gone more smoothly! The facility was easy to find and navigate. I was made to feel comfortable right from the start. The process was extremely efficient and the entire staff was incredibly kind and caring as well as thorough and professional. I would definitely recommend the Digestive Health Center to anyone in need of their services.

I have seen Dr. Shaheen for a few diagnostic procedures over the years. I went yesterday for a Agd and everything went So smoothly. Everyone there was very friendly, check in was easy, and from the review of my medical history and placement of my I.V it was great. I have small veins , and have had alot of trouble with even getting into a vein. She got in with No discomfort- first try!! The anesthesiologist introduced himself to me- very nice guy, and then Dr. Shaheen came in to talk to me briefly prior to procedure. Everyone put me at ease and I knew everyone was very skilled and professional yet found things to laugh about throughout appt. Definately highly recommend facility and c will always go there for procedures!

Everyone treated me well, and with respect. The doctor and staff there seem to be very well trained, and very good at what they do. I can't say I enjoyed having a colonoscopy but since it was time to get one I'm glad I came to this facility! Thank you for treating me well.
