Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

Cataract SurgeryThe clouded natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with a clear artificial one. It is one of the most common outpatient procedures performed in the country, usually takes under 30 minutes per eye, and is done under light sedation with numbing drops rather than general anesthesia.LASIK / Refractive SurgeryA laser reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, reducing dependence on glasses or contacts. The procedure itself takes minutes per eye. Vision is often noticeably better within a day, though it can take several weeks to fully stabilize.Glaucoma SurgeryCreates a new drainage path for fluid inside the eye to lower internal pressure. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve silently, so the goal is preventing further vision loss rather than restoring vision already lost. Several minimally invasive options are now performed in outpatient settings.Retinal SurgeryRepairs the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye, most often for a detached or torn retina, or for bleeding related to diabetes. Timing matters — a detaching retina is treated urgently because delay increases the risk of permanent vision loss.Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)Removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. When drooping upper lids block part of the visual field, the procedure is functional rather than cosmetic and is often covered by insurance if visual field testing documents the obstruction.Corneal TransplantReplaces damaged or clouded corneal tissue with donor tissue. Modern techniques often replace only the affected layer rather than the full thickness, which shortens recovery. Vision improves gradually over months, and stitches may stay in place for a year or longer.

Dr. Skarie did my cataract surgery with a light adjustable lens implant. My follow up treatments were done by Dr. Zitko. The whole process was extremely professional and the doctors and staff (Ben and Kayanna) were very friendly and informative throughout the surgery and post-operative care visits. I’ve worn glasses and contacts since the 4th grade. I can’t believe I’m seeing 20/20 now without any correction! It has truly been life changing! Thanks again to everyone at Ohio Eye and especially to Dr. Skarie!

Love the doctors I've seen, but optical department is frustrating. Sign in and wait... no appointments and you can't tell if you're next or 10th in line. I just wanted to pick up glasses I already paid for. One person working, waiting room full.

Dr. Olson is awesome and amazing as always. HOWEVER, the office staff (check in/out counters) are a different story. They are rude, unfriendly, they didn’t seem like they wanted to be there at all. They are the first faces a patient sees when walking in the building, and that’s not a very good representation of the organization. If it wasn’t for Dr Olson being here, I wouldn’t continue coming to OEA to have to deal with the office staff’s attitudes.

I am a foster parent and have had several kids and teens come here for appointments. I have never had better service at an eye place than I always have while here. Recently, Autumn, a tech, did an excellent job of helping my nervous teenager relax during a challenging portion of their pre-tests. Then, Dr. Tom came in after only a short wait and did an excellent job of helping them be comfortable as well and giving a ton of useful, informative answers when they asked several questions. I recommend this place 100%, every time!
