Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

Cataract SurgeryThe clouded natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with a clear artificial one. It is one of the most common outpatient procedures performed in the country, usually takes under 30 minutes per eye, and is done under light sedation with numbing drops rather than general anesthesia.LASIK / Refractive SurgeryA laser reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, reducing dependence on glasses or contacts. The procedure itself takes minutes per eye. Vision is often noticeably better within a day, though it can take several weeks to fully stabilize.Glaucoma SurgeryCreates a new drainage path for fluid inside the eye to lower internal pressure. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve silently, so the goal is preventing further vision loss rather than restoring vision already lost. Several minimally invasive options are now performed in outpatient settings.Retinal SurgeryRepairs the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye, most often for a detached or torn retina, or for bleeding related to diabetes. Timing matters — a detaching retina is treated urgently because delay increases the risk of permanent vision loss.Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)Removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. When drooping upper lids block part of the visual field, the procedure is functional rather than cosmetic and is often covered by insurance if visual field testing documents the obstruction.Corneal TransplantReplaces damaged or clouded corneal tissue with donor tissue. Modern techniques often replace only the affected layer rather than the full thickness, which shortens recovery. Vision improves gradually over months, and stitches may stay in place for a year or longer.

All of the staff were extremely nice and professional. I had Dr Johnston and he was very good. He always made sure I was comfortable and addressed any concerns I had. He explained things thoroughly and assured me if I had any issues he was always there for me. I recommend Novus highly.

I was told one price when appt booked, price was almost double when checking out, then received a bill for additional $84 three months after appointment for comprehensive New Patient Exam, never received a prescription or even check my eyes for prescription. Do not recommend. Get pricing in writing up front.

I loved Dr. Byer because he was personable and I’m pleased with the results of my surgery. There was a lady at my 11/24/25 appointment that postponed her lunch to perform a test to send to my insurance for surgery approval concerning another eye issue. Mi forget her name but she was kind, funny and explained everything to me about the test.

Tallmadge location: Extremely bad 1st impression...called in for an appt as a new patient bc of having some eye difficulties the past few months. Was told they dont accept my vision insurance (Davis), but they do accept it bc I have Med Mutual for medical. If I saw an opthamologist, and he/she determined that I needed glasses then I would have to pay out of pocket bc they then can't/won't bill the vision part of the insurance. If the ophthalmologist didnt find anything "medically" wrong with my eyes, then they cant bill medical insurance and then I have to pay out of pocket for the entire visit...such a gamble...either way (it was explained to me twice by two diff ppl there) seems like I was going to have to pay out of pocket 100% either way for visit or the glasses. That is not what warranted the 1 star review. Appt was set a week out, I took off work (I have a job that isnt flexible, but I took the day off bc my eyes are getting worse). I had to put in for the day off in advance and I had to take the whole day. Novus called me less than 24 hours before my scheduled appt to tell me that they made a mistake and scheduled me with the wrong Dr and that they needed to reschedule me. I explained I had to take off work for this appt. With such a non caring voice, the response was "well we are now scheduling into January". Like this is my fault!! Like I didn't take off work.. like I won't waste my yearly benefits! No sympathy or apology...when I said that I can't schedule out that far and had already taken off work...no solution of trying to find me an appt sooner bc of their error ..the lady that called was like ok, so we canceled yr appt and silence. Oh she did say they found an appt that they could squeeze me in (like Im the inconvenience here, lol) it was for the day after my initial appt and I explained that I could not take 2 days off in a row.. I asked of they had anything the following week as I had a day off that week and that is when she no, they were scheduling into January. I said well, I guess I have to find somewhere else and she ok...that was the end of the call. ZERO STARS ...wasted my time and money and made me burn a PTO day at work for nothing!
