Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

Cataract SurgeryThe clouded natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with a clear artificial one. It is one of the most common outpatient procedures performed in the country, usually takes under 30 minutes per eye, and is done under light sedation with numbing drops rather than general anesthesia.LASIK / Refractive SurgeryA laser reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, reducing dependence on glasses or contacts. The procedure itself takes minutes per eye. Vision is often noticeably better within a day, though it can take several weeks to fully stabilize.Glaucoma SurgeryCreates a new drainage path for fluid inside the eye to lower internal pressure. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve silently, so the goal is preventing further vision loss rather than restoring vision already lost. Several minimally invasive options are now performed in outpatient settings.Retinal SurgeryRepairs the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye, most often for a detached or torn retina, or for bleeding related to diabetes. Timing matters — a detaching retina is treated urgently because delay increases the risk of permanent vision loss.Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)Removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. When drooping upper lids block part of the visual field, the procedure is functional rather than cosmetic and is often covered by insurance if visual field testing documents the obstruction.Corneal TransplantReplaces damaged or clouded corneal tissue with donor tissue. Modern techniques often replace only the affected layer rather than the full thickness, which shortens recovery. Vision improves gradually over months, and stitches may stay in place for a year or longer.

I had cataract surgery yesterday at the East Eye Health NW Surgery Center and what an exceptional team and experience while there. Every person made sure that I was comfortable and that I understood every step in the process. Olivia, Oxanna, Candace, Destiny, Rada, and Dr Shane Kim were very helpful, personable ,efficient, and good team players. Dr. Shane Kim did a wonderful job in the surgery and my right eye can see normally now. I highly recommend this company and this team. E.A. Hubbard

I recently had Ptosis surgery at this location with Dr. Castillo as my surgeon. I wanted to say how professional and kind everyone is at this facility...from the moment you walk thru the front door, throughout your procedure, after care, to wheeling you out to your transportation home. Thank you for your patience with all my quirks 😉, if I could give you 10 ⭐️'s, I would!!!

First of all, my eye doctor is Dr. Alan Bengtzen. He's an ophthalmologist and cataract specialist and that's what I wanted for my cataracts. Loved him and highly recommend. The Eye Health Eastside Surgery Center is where he does surgeries and I highly recommend this place as well. The whole staff is very nice. The procedure is quick, painless, and no issues. They give you easy to follow instructions so follow them.. Don't be like some people and EAT before surgery. Really. The only thing is when you see Dr. Bengtzen at clinic is that he may run behind schedule... Be PATIENT. As it was told to me he cares for his patients and takes time with each and every one. So, if you're one of those that has lots of questions and doubts, etc know he'll be patient with you and answer them. For those who are timely and expect timeliness be patient and bring a book. Otherwise, find another provider.

I had a cataract operation at this location, and I must say they do an excellent job in making it as pain free as possible. The surgery lasted 10 or 15 minutes and I was able to walk out pain free after another 10 minutes. They work miracles when it comes to eye care.
