Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

ColonoscopyA flexible camera examines the full length of the colon to screen for cancer and remove polyps before they become cancerous. Done under sedation, it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. The bowel prep the day before is the part most patients find hardest.Upper Endoscopy (EGD)A thin camera passed through the mouth examines the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Used to investigate persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained bleeding, or abdominal pain. Usually takes 15 to 30 minutes under sedation.Flexible SigmoidoscopyExamines the lower portion of the colon only, rather than its full length. Preparation is lighter than a full colonoscopy and sedation is sometimes unnecessary, but it cannot detect problems higher in the colon.Capsule EndoscopyYou swallow a vitamin-sized camera that photographs the small intestine as it passes through — a region that standard scopes cannot easily reach. There is no sedation and no recovery. The capsule passes naturally, and images are reviewed after the fact.ERCPCombines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat blockages in the bile and pancreatic ducts, most often gallstones stuck in a duct. Unlike a routine endoscopy, it carries a meaningful risk of pancreatitis afterward, so it is used when treatment is likely rather than for screening alone.Hemorrhoid TreatmentShrinks or removes swollen veins in the rectum and anus using rubber band ligation, injection, or surgical removal depending on severity. Banding is quick and typically requires no anesthesia; surgical removal is more effective for advanced cases but recovery is noticeably more uncomfortable.

Had a colonoscopy performed there with Dr. Leonard Walsh and staff. Dr. and staff very friendly, professional and genuine. My first time there and I am totally satisfied with the care I received there. All staff from reception to out the door were top notch.

My husband loves the staff at Northeastern Gastroenterology, Mountain Laurel. Not only are they efficient and pleasant, but they truly care. We received all the paperwork we needed prior to his procedure. The preparation directions were excellent. We knew exactly what was expected of us and therefore, could prepare properly. The staff communicated well with my husband during his procedure. They explained beforehand what would occur. They introduced their anesthesiologist to him. After recovery, they personally walked him to the car, where I was waiting for him. They had a smile on their face and some reassuring words. The following day, my husband received a phone call at home to see if he was feeling well. Oh, my goodness, what more could a patient ask for? Great experience all the way around.

Waited for over 2 hours for a procedure I had to fast 2 days prior. No one offered any explanation or expression of concern. I will NOT return. With modern technologies and online pre-registrations, waiting for hours just to get out of the lobby is unacceptable.
