Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

Cataract SurgeryThe clouded natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with a clear artificial one. It is one of the most common outpatient procedures performed in the country, usually takes under 30 minutes per eye, and is done under light sedation with numbing drops rather than general anesthesia.LASIK / Refractive SurgeryA laser reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, reducing dependence on glasses or contacts. The procedure itself takes minutes per eye. Vision is often noticeably better within a day, though it can take several weeks to fully stabilize.Glaucoma SurgeryCreates a new drainage path for fluid inside the eye to lower internal pressure. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve silently, so the goal is preventing further vision loss rather than restoring vision already lost. Several minimally invasive options are now performed in outpatient settings.Retinal SurgeryRepairs the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye, most often for a detached or torn retina, or for bleeding related to diabetes. Timing matters — a detaching retina is treated urgently because delay increases the risk of permanent vision loss.Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)Removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. When drooping upper lids block part of the visual field, the procedure is functional rather than cosmetic and is often covered by insurance if visual field testing documents the obstruction.Corneal TransplantReplaces damaged or clouded corneal tissue with donor tissue. Modern techniques often replace only the affected layer rather than the full thickness, which shortens recovery. Vision improves gradually over months, and stitches may stay in place for a year or longer.

I had a wonderful experience! They took such good care of me every step of the way. Everyone from the front desk to the surgical team and in between were so kind and gracious. It’s like they knew I’d be nervous and led me thru the process. I truly appreciate each and every one of you! I’m totally recommending you to everyone! Actually, I already have! Thank you!!

I’m very happy with my results! I had my initial consult over a year ago, and made a plan based around my work schedule to have PRK early in 2026. Scheduling my additional consult appointments was easy and the Dr’s were fantastic answering questions about the recovery process and life after PRK. My procedure day was easy and recovery was as expected from my consultations. I appreciate the honest expectations that were laid out for me and am lovingly “new” vision!!!

I have been treated here before and had a great experience. I believe the level of care is very good however my wife had an appointment today at 1:00. It is now slightly after 3:00 and they just came to get her for her procedure. I don't understand why we had to be here 2 hours early. There were some preliminary steps to getting in for the procedure but those were accomplished in less than a half hour.

Very pleased with my decision to move forward with LASIK. The team was informative and fantastic to work with. Surgery and recovery were both a breeze. I would highly recommend not only LASIK, but BHREI to anyone interested!

Excellent experience with my PRK eye surgery. The staff was professional and helpful. Even though it’s a little scary to have your eyes operated on, they help make the whole process go smoothly and safely, keeping you as comfortable as possible. I am excited for my new and improved vision!
