Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

ColonoscopyA flexible camera examines the full length of the colon to screen for cancer and remove polyps before they become cancerous. Done under sedation, it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. The bowel prep the day before is the part most patients find hardest.Upper Endoscopy (EGD)A thin camera passed through the mouth examines the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Used to investigate persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained bleeding, or abdominal pain. Usually takes 15 to 30 minutes under sedation.Flexible SigmoidoscopyExamines the lower portion of the colon only, rather than its full length. Preparation is lighter than a full colonoscopy and sedation is sometimes unnecessary, but it cannot detect problems higher in the colon.Capsule EndoscopyYou swallow a vitamin-sized camera that photographs the small intestine as it passes through — a region that standard scopes cannot easily reach. There is no sedation and no recovery. The capsule passes naturally, and images are reviewed after the fact.ERCPCombines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat blockages in the bile and pancreatic ducts, most often gallstones stuck in a duct. Unlike a routine endoscopy, it carries a meaningful risk of pancreatitis afterward, so it is used when treatment is likely rather than for screening alone.Hemorrhoid TreatmentShrinks or removes swollen veins in the rectum and anus using rubber band ligation, injection, or surgical removal depending on severity. Banding is quick and typically requires no anesthesia; surgical removal is more effective for advanced cases but recovery is noticeably more uncomfortable.

I can't say enough wonderful things about the people that work here. They are so caring and treated me with respect and made everything so amazing by their heartfelt ways. I strongly suggest going to the Endoscopy Center on Riverside Drive. You will be glad you did. Dr. Olds is a outstanding Dr. He truly helped me and cares about his patients.

I needed a colonoscopy and an endoscopy. The Chattanooga Endoscopy Center team all worked together really well. I had an excellent doctor, Dr. Bosshardt. I felt I was in the best care while I was there having the procedures done. I highly recommend this place to anyone who needs to have these kind of procedures done. They all are very professional and made sure I was completely safe and comfortable. I'm very thankful for all they did for me in helping me to be able to continue to l have a good quality of life.

The process is what it is and prevention is key. With that said, the staff made the process as seamless and positive as it could be from scheduling to the communications prior to the procedure to the process on the day of the procedure. The staff was attentive, professional, equally concerned about their level of understanding of my medical history and my understanding of the procedure that day, and my follow up care. There were also some lighthearted efforts to add levity to the moment which I appreciated as a person who finds sarcasm comical when appropriately timed. I won’t tell and spoil it for anyone who hasn’t been to this office yet. Dr. Sommer and her team were fantastic. Based on my experiences. I would use this facility again.
