A Terrible and Unprofessional Experience – Texan Eye Surgery Center (7000 N. Mopac Expressway) I had two cataract surgery appointments at Texan Eye Surgery Center, and my experience was truly disappointing. On October 13, 2025, my right-eye surgery went smoothly, but the discharge process was careless. I was wheeled out without being given the mandatory dark protective sunglasses for post-op recovery — a standard step for every cataract patient. I didn’t realize this until we were already on the highway. When I mentioned this the next morning to Ms. Pam, who called to check on me, she cut me off mid-sentence and accused me of lying, saying, “That’s not true.” Her response was rude, condescending, and completely unprofessional. Then on October 20, when I returned for the left-eye procedure, I arrived at 11:15 a.m., got checked in, and was prepped by 12:10 p.m. I was told I was ready for the operating room — and then abandoned for more than an hour. No one checked on me, even though I had an IV in and medication in my eye that had long dried out. When I finally asked for an update, a male nurse told me I’d have to wait “at least another 30 minutes,” without empathy or explanation. I was hungry, uncomfortable, and completely neglected. I finally asked to be unhooked and left at 2:25 p.m. This facility shows little concern for patient comfort or dignity. I left feeling that they care more about throughput and billing than actual patient care. I will never return to Texan Eye Surgery Center and strongly do not recommend them to anyone. Their staff needs serious retraining in professionalism, empathy, and patient communication.
My right eye cataract surgery, by Dr. Branch was a lot easier & faster than I’d expected. He’s only about 38-39 years old, and I was impressed by his skill. Once he arrived, the replacement of my lens couldn’t have been any faster. I was awake through the whole procedure, and it took less than 15 minutes for him to do it. The staff who prepared me, took the time to be sure that everything & everyone he needed was in the right place when he arrived.
I had cataract surgery at Texas Surgery off Far West in Austin, Tx. I was so impressed on the professionalism shown to me. My surgeon Dr. Branch was so caring and professional! Dr. Bell anesthesiologist was so informative and made sure I was well informed and taken care of! Linda and Thomas my nurses made me comfortable and kept me and very calm! Highly recommend Texas Surgery!
Had a procedure setup here for over 2months & then they decided to tell me the day before that they had to cancel & move me to the hospital bcuz of my BMI being higher then there policy or regulations require. The point that they sent me paper work amounts or so before to fill out & send in,whichI filled out & sent in the same day it was sent which was a month or so before my procedure. Which m eans you had all the information you needed to make that decision a month before instead of the day before my surgery makes you very Inconsiderate to people's lives or schedules or time at all.
Had cataract surgery here, performed by Dr. Thomas Walters from Texan Eye. Considering the Dr. is a partner at this facility and that this is the only place to have the surgery done by him, and considering the intentional (I'm sure) similarity in names, you'd think they are affiliated. Well, apparently not when it comes to insurance coverage: the Dr. and the anesthesiologist are both in one network and the facility itself is in another. No one told me this, including the person who confirmed all of my insurance coverage. So a couple of months after the surgery, I received a bill for over $2500 from Texan Surgery (separate and in addition to the copay I had already paid the doctor for my surgery). To me, that's worth 2 stars off. The extra star off is because of the 'cattle car' and 'assembly line' nature of the service there. I had an appointment at 8AM and I ended up sitting in the waiting room (with other patients, during this COVID pandemic) for 1 hour and 15 minutes. When I was taken back, it was into a small area with multiple patients 'pods' that were just large enough for the 'chair' and some room for the nurse to move around it; pretty cramped and in too close proximity to other patients in my opinion. After the surgery and the 'wakeup/recovery' period, I was wheeled out to a small counter by the exit of the 'back area' and given a cookie snack pack and a can of juice and wheeled out the door. Considering the amount of time I was there, the crowded and cramped conditions, and the 'rush you through' nature of the process, I cannot recommend Texan Surgery or Dr. Walters for cataract surgery (and I will be going elsewhere when I need it for my other eye).
