I had 2 cataract surgeries about week apart and both went very well. From the first visit to have eyes measured and counselor review of all details involved in both surgeries to last surgery this week, everything has been excellent. Staff on phone ,front desk ladies and everyone in pre-op and surgery were wonderful. Very organized and smooth operation with good music choices playing in pre-op (except Christmas music) Lol!! And music in surgery area. Very relaxed atmosphere and I was well cared for. Thank you everyone at Vista surgery center!
First of all, high marks to DR Janell Jackson and the medical staff in the OR, including the Anesthesia Dr. The facilities were clean and modern and the ptosis procedure was short and relatively easy. Now the constructive feedback about the Center: 1. Waited months, despite several efforts on my part, to learn if Medicare would cover the procedure. I was told 'we'll let you know as soon as we know. ' 2. Two weeks prior to the procedure I still had received no contact from the Center. Called and spoke to someone who said 'sure you're covered, have been for sometime.” I asked when I would get pre-op instructions and was told 'someone will call you tomorrow' No one called. So I called again and got ahold of someone who rattled off a series of 'instructions', which did not include length of procedure or total time expected to be at the center. I believe that had I not called, I would not have received instructions at all. 3. The post-op instruction sheet had a series of activities and medications to be used, but none of them had any check marks to indicate which to do. Several of the instructions seemed to apply to surgery done on both eyes. 4. I was told I would receive a prescription that would be called in. But no one asked what pharmacy to send it to. I called when I got home from the Center and spoke to someone who seemed surprised and asked me what Pharmacy they should call! I believe that had I not called, I would not have received that prescription. 5. I have an allergy condition called blepharitis which requires me to gently wash the eyelids twice a day. I asked two of the technicians how I should do that. Neither seemed familiar with that condition and said,' well, I guess you could do it gently.' Then I was told not to wash the eyelids at all for 5 days. Yet the post op instructions state I should gently wash the eyelids and lashes within 48 hours. Which is it? 6. One of the medications listed was an OTC eye drop that I guess I was supposed to use, although there had been no mention of it by anybody at the Center. Then there was another eyedrop that was listed -which one was I supposed to use? Altogether, other than the medical staff, a very unprofessional experience. I have since learned that there were numerous reviews on the boards, Google Reviews, etc. that mirrored my own. Had I known that this would be my medical experience on such a sensitive body part as my eyes, I would have traveled to Houston to see Dr Jackson at her own facility there.
I had lid lift surgery on October 4, 2024. The doctor was Janelle Jackson. Three months later, I have puffy eye lids above and below the incision, which by the way looks like a novice did it, and a perpetual bruise. The curvature of the eyelid is off center and I still feel like there are stitches there. There's still some discomfort on the eyelid. When I went to Dr. Jackson on the 20th of October to have the stitches cut, she cut some of my eyelashes instead. I went back twice because I was having issues, and was told that everything was fine. One of the doctors said, when I mentioned the puffy eye lid and the off center curvature, we are not here to make you look beautiful. And so, I m reporting this to you and will continue to post the botched surgery and legal action.
Reaching anyone at the surgery center or the neighboring eye institute has been incredibly frustrating. Inaccurate information is given, phone calls are bounced around, and messages go unreturned. This led me to being a nervous wreck leading up to the surgery. However, Dr. Jackson, who performed my surgery, earned my trust after our first meeting. I have a long history of eye issues and was dreading the procedure, but her calm demeanor and clear expertise immediately put me at ease. It’s obvious that she not only knows her field inside and out but is deeply passionate about her work. Even though my surgery was minor, I was amazed at how smoothly and painlessly everything went. Dr. Jackson has made me feel comfortable and confident about any future procedures with her. My anesthesiologist was Dr. Lozano, who was so friendly, trustworthy, and put me at ease throughout the process. His approachable nature made a significant difference in calming my nerves. I wish he could follow me around to any procedure where i need to be knocked out. Im giving 5 stars despite the challenges I faced before the surgery and issues with the organization itself, my main concern was always the surgery. In that regard, I couldn’t be happier. I would absolutely recommend this facility, as every staff member I interacted with was wonderful. Having had negative experiences at other medical centers, it’s refreshing to encounter a place where the doctors and staff truly excel. The positives far outweigh the negatives, and I hope they can resolve the logistical problems going forward.
The doctors and their staff are wonderful. I don't know who is in charge of office personnel, but they all need to be fired. They don't call till the last possible minute to let you know when your surgery time is, they are rude or fake stupid on the phone. Seems they are more interested in other things, not their job. 5 stars for the doctors and their staff but only 1 for the office staff. I hate lazy, unconcerned people...and this place has an overabundance of them. Also, why they make appts is a mystery to me. Sit waiting for an hour and a half with eyes dilated. Why? Procedure takes 3 minutes. Don't know who is responsible for the wait times but being here for over two hours is wasting my time. Don't overbook doctors. It's crazy.
