Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

Cataract SurgeryThe clouded natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with a clear artificial one. It is one of the most common outpatient procedures performed in the country, usually takes under 30 minutes per eye, and is done under light sedation with numbing drops rather than general anesthesia.LASIK / Refractive SurgeryA laser reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, reducing dependence on glasses or contacts. The procedure itself takes minutes per eye. Vision is often noticeably better within a day, though it can take several weeks to fully stabilize.Glaucoma SurgeryCreates a new drainage path for fluid inside the eye to lower internal pressure. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve silently, so the goal is preventing further vision loss rather than restoring vision already lost. Several minimally invasive options are now performed in outpatient settings.Retinal SurgeryRepairs the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye, most often for a detached or torn retina, or for bleeding related to diabetes. Timing matters — a detaching retina is treated urgently because delay increases the risk of permanent vision loss.Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)Removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. When drooping upper lids block part of the visual field, the procedure is functional rather than cosmetic and is often covered by insurance if visual field testing documents the obstruction.Corneal TransplantReplaces damaged or clouded corneal tissue with donor tissue. Modern techniques often replace only the affected layer rather than the full thickness, which shortens recovery. Vision improves gradually over months, and stitches may stay in place for a year or longer.

I have been going here for probably 20+ years dating back to Dr.Ranelle. Dr Head is great answering my questions. Dr Hu did my cataract surgery & it’s wonderful. Very sweet staff from the front desk on back to the techs.

I loved the fact that Dr. Hu sent me a video reminding me of the important things to remember the day before the surgery AND a video reminding me of important things to remember after the surgery. It was very helpful!! Dr. Hi is a very good doctor and a very pleasant person. I would highly recommend him to family and friends for sure! Also, everyone who works in the office is most courteous, professional, and caring. You can tell everyone enjoys working for him.

I’ve had a great experience with Texas Eye & Laser Center. From the reception desk to the technicians who do exams, all the nurses and anesthesiologist and doctors, I experienced total professionalism and kindness with each appointment. The cards of thankfulness and check in phone calls were well received. All follow- up appointments showed the same care and concern of the patients. It’s a well run center that I have confidence in each time I go.

Fantastic experience with surgery here! Great people, great doctor! Reason I gave four stars is they keep the time of your surgery a secret until the day before(which by any standard is extremely last minute), which made it impossible for us to schedule my wife's time off to take me over there. You would think they could firm up their schedule better than that!

Wonderful experience with Texas Eye and Laser Center. Dr. Jerry Hur is a wonderful surgeon, and follow up Dr. Is caring and skilled . The staff is always professional, kind and caring. My eyesite is restored, glasses are a thing of the past. Colors are brighter. I can see objects both near and far but the most important thing is I can see to drive and read road signs. Actually I'm able to read. I am so glad I chose Texas Eye and Laser Center and would highly recommend to anyone.
