They are overwhelmed it seems as they take weeks to respond to a doctors orders for a procedure and then they schedule many months out.
Had top surgery today with Dr Rao and it went extremely smoothe. Him and his team were very kind and made the whole process so smoothe , had some giggles with nurses before and after surgery so I really felt confident I made the right choice.
I got a specialist referral from my PCP; they took 35 days to call me back to /schedule/ an appointment. (When I pointed this out at the call-back time, I got a "Your point?" response...). Heavens help you if you need something that your PCP can't deal with...you're WAY better off going directly to urgent care directly and trying to be treated that way rather than making appointments. I understand people are busy. But I also understand (from working with specialists as part of my professional career and private communications with them) that it should not take 2+ months between PCP referral and earliest appointment with a common specialist in a hospital system the size of UWHealth relative to the size of the population it services. If you look through these reviews, you will notice that (generally) the negative reviews are of the hospital system whereas positive ones relate experiences with specific practitioners. I by no means intend to criticize the individuals because I am sure they are (generally) caring, considerate, and adequate. The health system, however, was not in my experience.
Nurse Jessica G, ADN was rude and condescending. She lectured me and was argumentative about not wanting to give me an IV for sedation, as I had previously requested and was ordered. She lied to me in saying insurance won't pay. Nurses have nothing to do with insurance billing, so stay in your lane. Her technique for placing an IV is seriously concerning, you do not prick someone's skin three times before attempting to insert. I will refuse care from Jessica G. in the future.
I was at the surgical center recently for cataract surgery, and the care I received was outstanding! The room was very private with glass doors and curtains not just stand alone curtains.I was given a warmed blanket and a choice of beverage and snack for when I returned from surgery. Even the gown and socks were a relaxing color of lavender and purple. This review is coming from someone who has white coat syndrome and is extremely fearful of going to see a Doctor let alone surgery, so thank you for everything you do to make it the best experience possible. 🙂
