This posting is not about the surgical center itself but more so regarding the behavior and communication I received from the front office lead/scheduler. While I was waiting for my partner to recover from surgery I was waiting in the front lobby. There was no reception or front office support (probably due to low staffing /COVID) and so I waited for someone to come to the desk. After 30 minutes a woman came to the front desk and opened the window. I greeted her and said “hello” in a warming tone and she abruptly asked “do you have an appointment”? My response was “no, I am waiting for my husband in recovery”, while I was speaking she closed the window and turned her back and sat at her desk on the computer and got on the phone and started speaking loudly to someone on the phone. This woman did not even allow me to continue speaking or ask questions. I thought it was rude of her to close the window while I was speaking. This is a surgery center with patients and anyone experiencing this should understand that oftentimes surgical procedures is not only taxing on the individuals undergoing a procedure but to family as well. If you are working in the medical industry and are front office support and admin staff please have some compassion and be courteous. While I understand that folks may be stressed at times especially when understaffed it’s important to not forget why you decided to be in the industry. Before posting this I did reflect on if I was overthinking or being over sensitive about the situation, however, I thought it was important to know since folks will be interacting with this individual and of course now she is on the phone again laughing. Just really rude and not very empathetic.
