Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

Cataract SurgeryThe clouded natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with a clear artificial one. It is one of the most common outpatient procedures performed in the country, usually takes under 30 minutes per eye, and is done under light sedation with numbing drops rather than general anesthesia.LASIK / Refractive SurgeryA laser reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, reducing dependence on glasses or contacts. The procedure itself takes minutes per eye. Vision is often noticeably better within a day, though it can take several weeks to fully stabilize.Glaucoma SurgeryCreates a new drainage path for fluid inside the eye to lower internal pressure. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve silently, so the goal is preventing further vision loss rather than restoring vision already lost. Several minimally invasive options are now performed in outpatient settings.Retinal SurgeryRepairs the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye, most often for a detached or torn retina, or for bleeding related to diabetes. Timing matters — a detaching retina is treated urgently because delay increases the risk of permanent vision loss.Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)Removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. When drooping upper lids block part of the visual field, the procedure is functional rather than cosmetic and is often covered by insurance if visual field testing documents the obstruction.Corneal TransplantReplaces damaged or clouded corneal tissue with donor tissue. Modern techniques often replace only the affected layer rather than the full thickness, which shortens recovery. Vision improves gradually over months, and stitches may stay in place for a year or longer.

Physician Office Experience I had an appointment on October 8, 2025, at 9:45 AM and arrived at 9:30 AM. After providing my information, the front desk staff requested my insurance details, which I had already given them yesterday for an urgent appointment for an eye infection. The receptionist said they had misplaced the information and needed to re-verify it. After the staff member struggled to verify my BC/BS PPO insurance through their system, I asked to speak with a manager for assistance, as it was now 10:45 AM. The manager refused to get on the phone, and when I offered to call myself, I was told to continue waiting. The waiting room was crowded with many other patients who were also waiting. Given the significant delay and the lack of professional service, I decided to leave and went to an urgent care facility instead. This was the worst experience I've had at a physician's office. If you are looking for professional and timely service, I would strongly advise you to seek care elsewhere.

Avoid Beraja Medical Center if You Have Other Options I had a very disappointing experience at Beraja Medical Center. My friend's appointment was at 8:45 AM, but the surgery didn’t happen until nearly 2:00 PM, resulting in a wait of over 5 hours. The front desk staff were unhelpful and rude, especially towards elderly patients. One particular interaction with a male nurse was especially concerning—an elderly woman, who complained of a stomach issue, was told to "wait or reschedule," even though rescheduling would take months. Upon arriving, the waiting room was overcrowded, and it felt like the center was operating more like a factory than a healthcare provider. This lack of respect for patients was evident throughout the visit. To make matters worse, my friend, who had waited 3 hours to see a doctor due to complications from her surgery, was told that her regular doctor wasn’t available and that she would have to return in 20 days for follow-up care. In short, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere if you have other options. The treatment, both in terms of care and customer service, was unacceptable.

My appointment was scheduled for 9:30 am and by 10:58 am, I was still waiting to be seen. The waiting room was completely full, and most of the people waiting, elderly-some of whom looked very uncomfortable. IT is unacceptable to have patients, especially seniors, waiting this long without updates or communication. I understand things can’t backed up, but his felt like poor planning and lack of respect for patient time. In addition the bathrooms were not working.

Before visiting this office, make sure you make your appointment because after I have been waiting there for nearly two hours, you'll find out that no one knows anything. The employees are more concerned with just ignoring the workload because they don't even do their jobs properly. They need to be professional and kind with the patients.I recommend you look for another office that considers patients. I left the place without seeing the Opthologist, and nobody cared.
