Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

ColonoscopyA flexible camera examines the full length of the colon to screen for cancer and remove polyps before they become cancerous. Done under sedation, it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. The bowel prep the day before is the part most patients find hardest.Upper Endoscopy (EGD)A thin camera passed through the mouth examines the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Used to investigate persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained bleeding, or abdominal pain. Usually takes 15 to 30 minutes under sedation.Flexible SigmoidoscopyExamines the lower portion of the colon only, rather than its full length. Preparation is lighter than a full colonoscopy and sedation is sometimes unnecessary, but it cannot detect problems higher in the colon.Capsule EndoscopyYou swallow a vitamin-sized camera that photographs the small intestine as it passes through — a region that standard scopes cannot easily reach. There is no sedation and no recovery. The capsule passes naturally, and images are reviewed after the fact.ERCPCombines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat blockages in the bile and pancreatic ducts, most often gallstones stuck in a duct. Unlike a routine endoscopy, it carries a meaningful risk of pancreatitis afterward, so it is used when treatment is likely rather than for screening alone.Hemorrhoid TreatmentShrinks or removes swollen veins in the rectum and anus using rubber band ligation, injection, or surgical removal depending on severity. Banding is quick and typically requires no anesthesia; surgical removal is more effective for advanced cases but recovery is noticeably more uncomfortable.

From check in to leaving was amazing. The nurses as well as the assistants were so professional and kind. Dr Gomez saw me before colonoscopy and then in the procedure room and giving me my results. Anthologist was very nice and explained everything. Again the whole experience was very personable.

This is the second time I have had to have the “dreaded colonoscopy”!. Each time I was lucky enough to have excellent specialists, Dr. Rex Gomez and now his son Dr. Justin Gomez. The Space Coast Endoscopy Center is very organized and efficient. I was quickly taken in upon my arrival and all the nursing staff and anesthesiologist were friendly and professional which eased my anxiety. I was made very comfortable and happy with a warmed blanket while being prepared for the procedure. Soon after being greeted by the doctor, the colonoscopy was done and I woke up from a welcome sleep. My brother was called in from the waiting room and we were told what was found and when to go to the follow up visit. I was in and out within 3 hours. I would highly recommend my doctor and this facility for anyone needing digestive procedures.

They called me an hour before the procedure to see if I could come in earlier. I left my house right then and arrived 30 minutes early as they requested. I ended up waiting 45 minutes! Then when they finally took me back everything was super rushed, three nurses were working with me at once. That part was super frustrating! I don't love the fact that there's limited privacy. You're separated by 7 other people with a simple curtain. However, the nurses and doctor were fantastic. Everything went very smoothly and the rest of it was not a problem.

From my arrival to leaving everyone taking part in my testing was fabulous. Everyone was so friendly and fun conversations. Hats off to the anesthesiaologist (forgot his name) and my surgeon Dr Rylander for adding some humor to my situation. Very professional group and so personable.
