Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

ColonoscopyA flexible camera examines the full length of the colon to screen for cancer and remove polyps before they become cancerous. Done under sedation, it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. The bowel prep the day before is the part most patients find hardest.Upper Endoscopy (EGD)A thin camera passed through the mouth examines the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Used to investigate persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained bleeding, or abdominal pain. Usually takes 15 to 30 minutes under sedation.Flexible SigmoidoscopyExamines the lower portion of the colon only, rather than its full length. Preparation is lighter than a full colonoscopy and sedation is sometimes unnecessary, but it cannot detect problems higher in the colon.Capsule EndoscopyYou swallow a vitamin-sized camera that photographs the small intestine as it passes through — a region that standard scopes cannot easily reach. There is no sedation and no recovery. The capsule passes naturally, and images are reviewed after the fact.ERCPCombines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat blockages in the bile and pancreatic ducts, most often gallstones stuck in a duct. Unlike a routine endoscopy, it carries a meaningful risk of pancreatitis afterward, so it is used when treatment is likely rather than for screening alone.Hemorrhoid TreatmentShrinks or removes swollen veins in the rectum and anus using rubber band ligation, injection, or surgical removal depending on severity. Banding is quick and typically requires no anesthesia; surgical removal is more effective for advanced cases but recovery is noticeably more uncomfortable.

This was my first colonoscopy, and I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect — but I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth and positive the entire experience was. From the moment I arrived, everything was handled with care and professionalism. I was checked in and seen within just 5 minutes. I met with Danielle, who was incredibly kind and comforting, helping to ease any nerves I had. They gave me a heated blanket (which felt amazing!) and let me keep my socks on — those little touches made a big difference. The staff made me feel truly cared for and relaxed. The procedure itself was fast and easy. I was in and out in about an hour and a half, and I left feeling so grateful for how well I was treated. If you’re nervous about your first colonoscopy — don’t be. You’ll be in excellent hands here. Highly recommend!

I had a very positive experience with Suncoast Endoscopy of Sarasota. I followed the detailed and easy to understand prep instructions for the procedure. Everyone I encountered was caring and professional. I experienced no issues with the anesthesia. I highly recommend Dr Murchie and the entire staff.

The staff upstairs must hate their job. A man and a woman at the reception desk for the consult were absolutely cold and uncaring. Get these kind of people out of your office! Just miserable personalities. Even the PA I consulted with was on a time clock and it was ticking. She never smiled, didn’t make eye contact other than to look up when I asked her questions which she clearly didn’t have the empathy or patience to truly attend to and I left her feeling like cattle. While the staff downstairs was kind , today is October 22nd and they STILL HAVENT CALLED WITH RESULTS of colonoscopy. I called two weeks after and they gave me the runaround then. They also charged me a copay but it’s covered by my insurance as preventive. When I called to get that returned, they gave me the run around. DONT COME HERE.

Dr Marc Bernstein is a great doctor. Easy to talk to, respectful and professional. Every single person who works there was kind, personable and professional. I have been a patient since 2012. Clean environment and safe.

I had a very good experience at Suncoast Endoscopy. From the minute I walked in I was greeted with a very pleasant receptionist who made me feel very much at ease. The nurses were very professional and thorough. The anesthesiaologist was also very thorough and made sure I understood every step. I had Dr Matheus do my procedure and she was wonderful. Very clean and inviting environment also. I highly recommend.
