Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

ColonoscopyA flexible camera examines the full length of the colon to screen for cancer and remove polyps before they become cancerous. Done under sedation, it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. The bowel prep the day before is the part most patients find hardest.Upper Endoscopy (EGD)A thin camera passed through the mouth examines the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Used to investigate persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained bleeding, or abdominal pain. Usually takes 15 to 30 minutes under sedation.Flexible SigmoidoscopyExamines the lower portion of the colon only, rather than its full length. Preparation is lighter than a full colonoscopy and sedation is sometimes unnecessary, but it cannot detect problems higher in the colon.Capsule EndoscopyYou swallow a vitamin-sized camera that photographs the small intestine as it passes through — a region that standard scopes cannot easily reach. There is no sedation and no recovery. The capsule passes naturally, and images are reviewed after the fact.ERCPCombines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat blockages in the bile and pancreatic ducts, most often gallstones stuck in a duct. Unlike a routine endoscopy, it carries a meaningful risk of pancreatitis afterward, so it is used when treatment is likely rather than for screening alone.Hemorrhoid TreatmentShrinks or removes swollen veins in the rectum and anus using rubber band ligation, injection, or surgical removal depending on severity. Banding is quick and typically requires no anesthesia; surgical removal is more effective for advanced cases but recovery is noticeably more uncomfortable.

I recently had an endoscopy procedure with Dr. Heacock. The staff from the beginning to the end are the best group of people and so very compassionate about what they do. They definitely made this small procedure fun, even Dr. Heacock's play list was great. Thank you guys for being so heartwarming and caring.

Had an endoscopy procedure on yesterday with Dr. Heacock, and it was literally the best medical facility I have ever been to. The entire staff was very helpful, and informative, but the few names I do remember are: Haley, Amy, Nancy, Terri. Everyone was so nice, from Dr Heacock himself, his assistant during the procedure, and the anesthesiologist. The facility was clean and organized. One more plus was, I received a call on today, to see how I was doing/feeling since the endoscopy. I am beyond happy with my decision on going to this facility vs going to one of the hospitals.

Best of the best. I've had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy done there. The staff were so professional and caring. My most loved Dr. Don Heacock is the best. Nice location. There's nothing negative I have to say. If you want patience, caring and professional staff visit GastrSouth Endoscopy Center

Well…if you are needing a colonoscopy, Gastro South is your place to go. From the receptionist all the through to Dr Judah, the staff are wonderful! As unpleasant as this procedure is, Dr Judah, all the nurses, assistants, anesthesiologist are top notch. Very caring and eager to make your experience as good as it can be. They all care about you. The facility is clean, and bright. They would have given me as many warm blankets as I needed. I don’t expect to have to go back in for any further procedures, but if I do, this is where I’ll go!
