Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

ColonoscopyA flexible camera examines the full length of the colon to screen for cancer and remove polyps before they become cancerous. Done under sedation, it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. The bowel prep the day before is the part most patients find hardest.Upper Endoscopy (EGD)A thin camera passed through the mouth examines the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Used to investigate persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained bleeding, or abdominal pain. Usually takes 15 to 30 minutes under sedation.Flexible SigmoidoscopyExamines the lower portion of the colon only, rather than its full length. Preparation is lighter than a full colonoscopy and sedation is sometimes unnecessary, but it cannot detect problems higher in the colon.Capsule EndoscopyYou swallow a vitamin-sized camera that photographs the small intestine as it passes through β€” a region that standard scopes cannot easily reach. There is no sedation and no recovery. The capsule passes naturally, and images are reviewed after the fact.ERCPCombines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat blockages in the bile and pancreatic ducts, most often gallstones stuck in a duct. Unlike a routine endoscopy, it carries a meaningful risk of pancreatitis afterward, so it is used when treatment is likely rather than for screening alone.Hemorrhoid TreatmentShrinks or removes swollen veins in the rectum and anus using rubber band ligation, injection, or surgical removal depending on severity. Banding is quick and typically requires no anesthesia; surgical removal is more effective for advanced cases but recovery is noticeably more uncomfortable.

Everything about the experience was good EXCEPT that I was instructed to be up prepping at 2:00 AM. I had maybe 3-4 hours of sleep that night and felt trashed all the next day. Could you perhaps schedule colonoscopies in the afternoon, so start prepping at 7:00 AM? You could do non-prep cases in the morning.

I always have a great experience at this Boise center. The staff and nurses are fantastic they care about their patients they go beyond making sure everything is good. For the first time this doctor told me I have a colon that is shaped like a pretzel he said he made sure he put it in his notes so he would know how to proceed. He is the kindest doctor he makes sure his patients understand what he found I like the idea that I have pictures of my colon when the procedure is finished. This is the best place to go for your colonoscopy.

Doctor Story and his team are very caring and accommodating. I have a few physical limitations and everyone was very attentive to my needs. They all made me feel at ease and I appreciate how much Doctor Story interacted with me. I hope he doesn't retire for a long time!

My experience at Idaho Gastroentrology Associates and Endoscopy Center was a very easy , professional one starting with a new prep kit that you start the day before your colonoscopy . The staff are very professional and they understood , but stuck with me when I was a hard stick putting in the IV . I can’t say enough about Dr. Story and the staff who prep me and help the doctor. Everyone was very helpful from the time I walk in to walking me and my driver to her truck . Thank you and test would recommit any irb
