Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

ColonoscopyA flexible camera examines the full length of the colon to screen for cancer and remove polyps before they become cancerous. Done under sedation, it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. The bowel prep the day before is the part most patients find hardest.Upper Endoscopy (EGD)A thin camera passed through the mouth examines the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Used to investigate persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained bleeding, or abdominal pain. Usually takes 15 to 30 minutes under sedation.Flexible SigmoidoscopyExamines the lower portion of the colon only, rather than its full length. Preparation is lighter than a full colonoscopy and sedation is sometimes unnecessary, but it cannot detect problems higher in the colon.Capsule EndoscopyYou swallow a vitamin-sized camera that photographs the small intestine as it passes through — a region that standard scopes cannot easily reach. There is no sedation and no recovery. The capsule passes naturally, and images are reviewed after the fact.ERCPCombines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat blockages in the bile and pancreatic ducts, most often gallstones stuck in a duct. Unlike a routine endoscopy, it carries a meaningful risk of pancreatitis afterward, so it is used when treatment is likely rather than for screening alone.Hemorrhoid TreatmentShrinks or removes swollen veins in the rectum and anus using rubber band ligation, injection, or surgical removal depending on severity. Banding is quick and typically requires no anesthesia; surgical removal is more effective for advanced cases but recovery is noticeably more uncomfortable.

Was told to arrive at 5:30am for my mother in-laws procedure, we arrived at 5:30 and the center was closed and pitch black. We waited for 15 minutes and finally some worker showed up late and looked disheveled like she had just woken up, we tried to explain we were told to arrive at 5:30 but she was rude and locked the door and wouldn’t let us in… Will probably be our last time here, sad that employees like this provide terrible experience for patients who are putting off their schedules and lives to come and get procedures done.

This team is incredible. I am always so relaxed there because I know I'm in good hands. They explain everything step by step along the way, from the prep to the discharge, and everyone is professional, knowledgeable, and caring. Dr. Mahdahvian is top notch - absolutely fantastic. We were in and out in a little over 2 hours. It feels very personable and they make everything so easy. Thorough, informative, and efficient – the entire process is seamless. I feel completely confident in their care, and the comfort and attention to detail they provide truly set them apart. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure you're comfortable and well-informed every step of the way. From start to finish, the experience was smooth, stress-free, and I couldn't be more grateful for the exceptional care I received. I was scheduled for screening colonoscopy and everything went nice and smooth. Staff is very professional and caring. Received detailed explanation of the procedure and how to prepare. Front desk staff had all papers prepared and I was walked in the pre-procedure room soon after I completed the paperwork. Best nurses EVER, caring nice and thoughtful. This was my very first time ever going under general anesthesia, so I must say I was very nervous. The nurses at Des Plaines Endoscopy Center walked me through the whole procedure and were very patient with my nerves and questions. My anesthesiologist was very accommodating and assured me everything would be okay. I was greeted by Mr. Mahdavian who explained what he would be doing and then next thing I knew I was in recovery. My experience at Des Plaines Endoscopy Center exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend Des Plaines Endoscopy Center to anyone!
