Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

Cataract SurgeryThe clouded natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with a clear artificial one. It is one of the most common outpatient procedures performed in the country, usually takes under 30 minutes per eye, and is done under light sedation with numbing drops rather than general anesthesia.LASIK / Refractive SurgeryA laser reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, reducing dependence on glasses or contacts. The procedure itself takes minutes per eye. Vision is often noticeably better within a day, though it can take several weeks to fully stabilize.Glaucoma SurgeryCreates a new drainage path for fluid inside the eye to lower internal pressure. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve silently, so the goal is preventing further vision loss rather than restoring vision already lost. Several minimally invasive options are now performed in outpatient settings.Retinal SurgeryRepairs the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye, most often for a detached or torn retina, or for bleeding related to diabetes. Timing matters — a detaching retina is treated urgently because delay increases the risk of permanent vision loss.Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)Removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. When drooping upper lids block part of the visual field, the procedure is functional rather than cosmetic and is often covered by insurance if visual field testing documents the obstruction.Corneal TransplantReplaces damaged or clouded corneal tissue with donor tissue. Modern techniques often replace only the affected layer rather than the full thickness, which shortens recovery. Vision improves gradually over months, and stitches may stay in place for a year or longer.

Update: Almost a year after all procedures are complete and I couldn’t be happier. My vision is much better and no longer need glasses. The glaucoma procedure was successful and worth the added recovery time. Some minor pain the day of treatment but worth the improvement in my sight. Wonderful clinic staff and Dr. Pankratz is highly skilled!!! Currently, I am not sure where I should be with the procedure. I am seeing better after cataract surgery on both eyes. My glaucoma surgeries will be completed tomorrow. Until the procedure is completely done, the five stars are for the overall professionalism of the staff; they have been great!

Dr Pankratz is the best, my mom had 2 Eye surgeries with him, and her sight is now like 20/20 ! she’s 86. Surgery and Post surgery were successful. Dr Pankratz is highly knowledgeable. He’s a notable physician in Columbus Indiana, his office and staff are gentle, We’ve visited several eye doctors in Indiana before, and we could say Dr Pankratz is the best! All my family of 4, are under his care for years. I would recommend him to everyone.

All of the staff are friendly and helpful! The surgical staff are amazing & make sure you understand what to do after surgery. Dr. Pankratz, himself, called the evening of both my surgeries to check on me and make sure I didn’t have any problems or questions! I have never had an actual doctor call to ask how I was doing and that puts him in a class by himself! He is always professional and listens to all of your concerns and answers with patience and expertise. I think he deserves 100 stars! I will definitely be recommending him to anyone who needs cataract/LASIK surgery! Thank you so much to everyone at the Pankratz Eye Institute for making my experience the best it could be!

I have visited many eye doctors since my stroke and I have had all bad visits each time I went in. At pankratz the doctor and his assistant made me feel more comfortable about what was going on with me and the things that they might have to do. From the time I walked in from the time I left that place all of the staff made me feel like I was their concern and fixing me was the priority of the job. They are all highly qualified and involved in the work they do. I highly recommend this eye doctor as I was very satisfied with the service that they offered me. Thanks. :Edit: When I first gave my review was the very first time I visited with this eye doctor. Friday on the 11th I went in for my second visit and I decided to let this doctor do the injection in my right eye. I have refused several others who have wanted to do the exact thing but I want having it. At this doctor the lady who assist him was the very and only reason I was able to have the courage to get it done. She made me feel like I had nothing to fear or worry about with pain and being an eyeball you don't want anything poking you in it. It just don't go hand in hand to go poking the eye with something sharp. But I mustered up the will to go have it done. I wished I would have got it done long ago but I didn't have the same soothing helpful assistant encouraging me to go for it. So thank you to both the eye doctor Blair E. Boehmer, M.D and his assistant.. To all the staff in that building thank you for loving your job and being there for us, the patients. We'll deserved 10 star doctors.
