Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

Cataract SurgeryThe clouded natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with a clear artificial one. It is one of the most common outpatient procedures performed in the country, usually takes under 30 minutes per eye, and is done under light sedation with numbing drops rather than general anesthesia.LASIK / Refractive SurgeryA laser reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, reducing dependence on glasses or contacts. The procedure itself takes minutes per eye. Vision is often noticeably better within a day, though it can take several weeks to fully stabilize.Glaucoma SurgeryCreates a new drainage path for fluid inside the eye to lower internal pressure. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve silently, so the goal is preventing further vision loss rather than restoring vision already lost. Several minimally invasive options are now performed in outpatient settings.Retinal SurgeryRepairs the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye, most often for a detached or torn retina, or for bleeding related to diabetes. Timing matters — a detaching retina is treated urgently because delay increases the risk of permanent vision loss.Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)Removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. When drooping upper lids block part of the visual field, the procedure is functional rather than cosmetic and is often covered by insurance if visual field testing documents the obstruction.Corneal TransplantReplaces damaged or clouded corneal tissue with donor tissue. Modern techniques often replace only the affected layer rather than the full thickness, which shortens recovery. Vision improves gradually over months, and stitches may stay in place for a year or longer.

I called to make an appointment to be seen with a referral from America’s best. The woman that I spoke to continuously cut me off as I was trying to give her insurance information to schedule an appointment, asked me several times what kind of appointment I needed when I specified upon her answering the phone that I would be a new patient. Even after her taking all of my information from my insurance after cutting me off several times, she requested that I sent her a photo of the insurance card so she can verify before she made my appointment because ‘my insurance card had too many numbers’ in her opinion . It has been one month to the day that I have sent this information I have yet to hear back. I have made an appointment with another doctor, thankfully and I will not be coming here.

Care quality is excellent, but communication is terrible. I was on hold for over 9 minutes and when they finally picked up, she rudely explained that they are very busy. There is no excuse for being on hold for 9 minutes just to confirm an appointment, and staff just doesn't seem to care

Dr. Williams is always a pleasure to be seen by ; he is very well mannered, patient, and is extremely knowledgeable, which makes me trust the information he gives me during my visits. What I appreciate most is his willingness to listen , which can often times be difficult to find nowadays, but it just gives an extra sense of comfort knowing that when I see him, I am being fully heard. Thanks so much, Dr. Williams. Also, special shout outs to Raquel (I hope I spelled right); she always has a pleasant attitude and I've seen her twice now before my visits with Dr. ________ Lastly, I appreciate Tammy, who works alongside Dr. and is always a joy to be seen by. Thanks for the hard work, Williams Eye Institute! ;) ~T.Smith
