Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

ColonoscopyA flexible camera examines the full length of the colon to screen for cancer and remove polyps before they become cancerous. Done under sedation, it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. The bowel prep the day before is the part most patients find hardest.Upper Endoscopy (EGD)A thin camera passed through the mouth examines the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Used to investigate persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained bleeding, or abdominal pain. Usually takes 15 to 30 minutes under sedation.Flexible SigmoidoscopyExamines the lower portion of the colon only, rather than its full length. Preparation is lighter than a full colonoscopy and sedation is sometimes unnecessary, but it cannot detect problems higher in the colon.Capsule EndoscopyYou swallow a vitamin-sized camera that photographs the small intestine as it passes through — a region that standard scopes cannot easily reach. There is no sedation and no recovery. The capsule passes naturally, and images are reviewed after the fact.ERCPCombines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat blockages in the bile and pancreatic ducts, most often gallstones stuck in a duct. Unlike a routine endoscopy, it carries a meaningful risk of pancreatitis afterward, so it is used when treatment is likely rather than for screening alone.Hemorrhoid TreatmentShrinks or removes swollen veins in the rectum and anus using rubber band ligation, injection, or surgical removal depending on severity. Banding is quick and typically requires no anesthesia; surgical removal is more effective for advanced cases but recovery is noticeably more uncomfortable.

BILLING NIGHTMARE! I had a routine colonoscopy and received my EOB from my insurance confirming no money due on my part to either the doctor nor Bethesda Endoscopy Center. Yet I received a bill for over $1500. I wrote to request an explanation, and shared my EOB. No response for months until today I received an email from a collections agency for $1500. This is completely outrageous and I will be making complaints to Maryland DOH, BBB, and any social media spaces. The care was good, particularly Dr. Campbell.

I had an excellent experience at the Bethesda Endoscopy Center. From the moment I walked in, the staff was friendly, organized, and reassuring. They made the entire process smooth and stress-free, which is something I truly appreciated. I want to thank all the staff, Drs. Polloack and Fuller, Maddie at the Front Desk, Edwin the Tech, Len my Post Op Nurse, Nurse Sylvia, and PA Tech. It’s clear the staff takes pride in providing high-quality patient care. For a procedure that isn’t exactly anyone’s favorite, they made it as easy and comfortable as possible. I highly recommend Bethesda Endoscopy Center to anyone looking for a place that combines professionalism with genuine kindness.

Who writes a review of their colonoscopy team? Apparently I do—because the Bethesda Endoscopy Center truly deserves it. From check-in to recovery, the care was outstanding. Dr. Borman greeted me like an old friend, remembered me from my last visit, and took time before and after to talk through everything. Dr. Fuller (anesthesiology) was cool, confident, and caring. Marvin the tech, Maddie at the front desk, Len in postop—and the rest of the team—were all fantastic. Highly recommend this exceptional group who are in a great, new facility.

I have nothing but positive things to say about Bethesda Endoscopy. I had my very first colonoscopy and the staff treated me very well. The young lady at the front desk was very courteous and professional. All the nurses did a wonderful job of keeping me comfortable and calm before and after the procedure. Highly Recommend!
