Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

ColonoscopyA flexible camera examines the full length of the colon to screen for cancer and remove polyps before they become cancerous. Done under sedation, it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. The bowel prep the day before is the part most patients find hardest.Upper Endoscopy (EGD)A thin camera passed through the mouth examines the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Used to investigate persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained bleeding, or abdominal pain. Usually takes 15 to 30 minutes under sedation.Flexible SigmoidoscopyExamines the lower portion of the colon only, rather than its full length. Preparation is lighter than a full colonoscopy and sedation is sometimes unnecessary, but it cannot detect problems higher in the colon.Capsule EndoscopyYou swallow a vitamin-sized camera that photographs the small intestine as it passes through — a region that standard scopes cannot easily reach. There is no sedation and no recovery. The capsule passes naturally, and images are reviewed after the fact.ERCPCombines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat blockages in the bile and pancreatic ducts, most often gallstones stuck in a duct. Unlike a routine endoscopy, it carries a meaningful risk of pancreatitis afterward, so it is used when treatment is likely rather than for screening alone.Hemorrhoid TreatmentShrinks or removes swollen veins in the rectum and anus using rubber band ligation, injection, or surgical removal depending on severity. Banding is quick and typically requires no anesthesia; surgical removal is more effective for advanced cases but recovery is noticeably more uncomfortable.

Today both of my parents had procedures done. We live approximately an hour away, and my mom was upset at the fact we had to travel so far….. but the staff, from the front desk, to the nurses prepping them for their procedure/assisting them in recovery, the anesthesiologist, and the doctors were absolutely amazing. I truly felt like my parents got in and out in a timely fashion. Every one was EXCEPTIONALLY kind. And in the end, due to the kind, caring, easy going nurses/staff, my mother felt like it was worth the travel. The way the nurses interacted with each other, and their patients, you can tell they weren’t only there to collect a paycheck, but they loved not only what they do, but they loved each other, and genuinely cared about their patients. Thank you Anne Arundel Digestive Center for caring for my parents the way you did.

Very unfriendly. Called 4 hours ahead saying patient called out so come asap. Arrived 3hours earlier than original appt time. Procedure started after the original appt time which is insane. Went in to make a point 'what is the point of calling early if it's going to be done after the original procedure time?' Secretary in the front tells me not to yell at her when no one was yelling and says it wasn't her. There were 5 people sitting there waiting where noone has heard anyone yelling. Then goes to the back office saying this person's yelling at me. First thing they should do is apologize whether she made the call or not. Instead first thing you hear after wasting 3 extra hours is "I'm not responsible so don't yell at me thankyou." Nice team work here. If they think their time is valuable and the patient and patient pick ups times are not, this is not a place where you really would appreciate coming to to rely on you while you get your procedures done. People here are not reliable.
