Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

Cataract SurgeryThe clouded natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with a clear artificial one. It is one of the most common outpatient procedures performed in the country, usually takes under 30 minutes per eye, and is done under light sedation with numbing drops rather than general anesthesia.LASIK / Refractive SurgeryA laser reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, reducing dependence on glasses or contacts. The procedure itself takes minutes per eye. Vision is often noticeably better within a day, though it can take several weeks to fully stabilize.Glaucoma SurgeryCreates a new drainage path for fluid inside the eye to lower internal pressure. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve silently, so the goal is preventing further vision loss rather than restoring vision already lost. Several minimally invasive options are now performed in outpatient settings.Retinal SurgeryRepairs the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye, most often for a detached or torn retina, or for bleeding related to diabetes. Timing matters — a detaching retina is treated urgently because delay increases the risk of permanent vision loss.Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)Removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. When drooping upper lids block part of the visual field, the procedure is functional rather than cosmetic and is often covered by insurance if visual field testing documents the obstruction.Corneal TransplantReplaces damaged or clouded corneal tissue with donor tissue. Modern techniques often replace only the affected layer rather than the full thickness, which shortens recovery. Vision improves gradually over months, and stitches may stay in place for a year or longer.

This is my first experience with the Benfield Eye Clinic office. I have been extremely impressed with the organization and teamwork that is involved. Everyone has been courteous and thoughtful. They are extremely competent and have explained everything I need to understand in preparation for my upcoming cataract surgery.I would highly recommend them for any of your eye needs. In addition to this post, I very recently had a cataract removed on my right eye. I am now two days in recovery and everything looks great! I think Dr. Bennefield and his staff are outstanding!

Dr. Walker is a great optometrist. She’s thorough and friendly with patients and doesn’t make you feel rushed. She was very patient in helping my daughter try on contacts showing her the process and allowing her to try this out at the office on her own. They did a follow up visit to see how the trial pair worked and didn’t charge extra.

From finding out I had really bad cataracts from awesome Dr. Heddy Walker, to my exams and up to my first surgery all the staff was fantastic and caring. Dr. Benefield is the best of the best, from surgery and after, he even called to check on me that night. Hanna was amazing when I had to go back a couple hours after surgery to be checked. I would highly recommend for any and all eye care.

Five Stars! Exceptional Care at Benefield Eyecare My recent visit to Benefield Eyecare Clinic was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. The moment I walked in, I was greeted by incredibly friendly and efficient staff who made the check-in process seamless. Dr. Walker and her team were outstanding—they were professional, took the time to explain every step of the thorough exam, and answered all my questions with patience and clarity. I never felt rushed, and I left feeling completely confident in my eye health and my new prescription. The environment was clean and welcoming, and the selection of eyewear is excellent.
