Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

ColonoscopyA flexible camera examines the full length of the colon to screen for cancer and remove polyps before they become cancerous. Done under sedation, it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. The bowel prep the day before is the part most patients find hardest.Upper Endoscopy (EGD)A thin camera passed through the mouth examines the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Used to investigate persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained bleeding, or abdominal pain. Usually takes 15 to 30 minutes under sedation.Flexible SigmoidoscopyExamines the lower portion of the colon only, rather than its full length. Preparation is lighter than a full colonoscopy and sedation is sometimes unnecessary, but it cannot detect problems higher in the colon.Capsule EndoscopyYou swallow a vitamin-sized camera that photographs the small intestine as it passes through โ€” a region that standard scopes cannot easily reach. There is no sedation and no recovery. The capsule passes naturally, and images are reviewed after the fact.ERCPCombines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat blockages in the bile and pancreatic ducts, most often gallstones stuck in a duct. Unlike a routine endoscopy, it carries a meaningful risk of pancreatitis afterward, so it is used when treatment is likely rather than for screening alone.Hemorrhoid TreatmentShrinks or removes swollen veins in the rectum and anus using rubber band ligation, injection, or surgical removal depending on severity. Banding is quick and typically requires no anesthesia; surgical removal is more effective for advanced cases but recovery is noticeably more uncomfortable.

Only negative commitment is to say the in processing area with so many cubicles crammed into a small area is not a good impression. The lobby area was nice for a first impression and the exam room was nice. The staff was friendly, patient and kind to my elderly mother. The PA, Hannah, was so very sweet and professional.

Everyone was professional, yet personable. It was a delight to interact with the staff. I was early to my appointment, and I was taken into the clinic within minutes. My clinician was thorough and informative, and was a joy to talk to. The whole experience was efficient and pleasant. As a result, I'm more at ease about my upcoming procedure.

Professional and Compassionate Care As a legally blind patient, clear communication and thoughtful care are extremely important to me. The team at Wilmington Gastroenterology was outstanding from start to finish. Everyone was professional, kind, and respectful, and they took the time to walk me through each step of the process. Before the procedure, everything was explained clearly so I understood exactly what was happening, which helped put me at ease. I truly appreciate the patience, compassion, and professionalism shown by the entire staff. I felt well cared for and confident throughout my visit, and I would highly recommend Wilmington Gastroenterology to others.

I haven't actually had my procedures done yet but I did have a consult. Everything went smoothly and everyone was nice. Cheronne? I think is her name was great and helped explain everything to me and made sure I knew exactly what to expect. I appreciated that very much

Always welcoming at reception and all members of staff, clerical, technical and medical, are professional, courteous, and friendly. The nurses and techs in the Endoscopy unit work smoothly and in synch while providing great care and a bit of conversation to ease nerves. I can't say enough about the great care they provide before, during and after procedures. My doctor is Mariam Sauer and she is amazing.
