Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

ColonoscopyA flexible camera examines the full length of the colon to screen for cancer and remove polyps before they become cancerous. Done under sedation, it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. The bowel prep the day before is the part most patients find hardest.Upper Endoscopy (EGD)A thin camera passed through the mouth examines the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Used to investigate persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained bleeding, or abdominal pain. Usually takes 15 to 30 minutes under sedation.Flexible SigmoidoscopyExamines the lower portion of the colon only, rather than its full length. Preparation is lighter than a full colonoscopy and sedation is sometimes unnecessary, but it cannot detect problems higher in the colon.Capsule EndoscopyYou swallow a vitamin-sized camera that photographs the small intestine as it passes through โ€” a region that standard scopes cannot easily reach. There is no sedation and no recovery. The capsule passes naturally, and images are reviewed after the fact.ERCPCombines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat blockages in the bile and pancreatic ducts, most often gallstones stuck in a duct. Unlike a routine endoscopy, it carries a meaningful risk of pancreatitis afterward, so it is used when treatment is likely rather than for screening alone.Hemorrhoid TreatmentShrinks or removes swollen veins in the rectum and anus using rubber band ligation, injection, or surgical removal depending on severity. Banding is quick and typically requires no anesthesia; surgical removal is more effective for advanced cases but recovery is noticeably more uncomfortable.

I recently had a procedure done under the care of Dr. Pensa and his team, and once again, I received exceptional care from start to finish. The entire staff at Bayside Endoscopy was professional, kind, and genuinely caring. They helped me feel at ease and as comfortable as possible throughout the process. All of my results were clearly explained to me, and when I needed to call a couple of days after the procedure, Dr. Pensa personally returned my call within a few hours. He took the time to listen, explain everything, and offer a practical solution. I highly recommend Dr. Pensa, his team, and all of the doctors at Bayside Endoscopy for their outstanding care and professionalism.

I always had a great experience with my colonoscopy's & endoscopy. The nurses were very kind and made sure I was comfortable. I didnt appreciate getting a letter 3 days before saying they didnt have time to get an authorization so we were going to have to pay 300 plus. So I called billing and then the office in Fla and made a payment plan. We paid 122.00 and will pay the rest in installments.

All good here.....warm blanket and gown appreciated......also nurse quickly put a towel on the cold plastic chair when getting dressed. Some mild pressure on the brain when the anesthesia began to take hold. The value of the procedure outweighs its discomfort.

I brought my wife in for a colonoscopy and I went back to the recovery room after the procedure. When it was time to start getting ready to leave the male nurse asked me to leave and then closed the curtain and had my wife change from her johny which she was completely naked and told her to change with him in the small curtained off space and said it was for her safety. It made her very uncomfortableI. I find it very hard to believe that him on the other side of the curtain put her at some risk that and I couldn't handle getting my wife ready myself with him right on the other side of a paper thin curtain!! Highly inappropriate!! I was furious!! Someone should rethink that policy.. if that is actually your policy. Very unprofessional!!

Could I suggest to this practice that when booking a colonoscopy, which, as you all know, involves a miserable bowel cleansing prep, that you contact the patient prior to get an updated medical history, rather than reviewing @ bedside only to discover the procedure will be cancelled based on new medical issues. How careless! Not a lot to ask!
