Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

ColonoscopyA flexible camera examines the full length of the colon to screen for cancer and remove polyps before they become cancerous. Done under sedation, it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. The bowel prep the day before is the part most patients find hardest.Upper Endoscopy (EGD)A thin camera passed through the mouth examines the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Used to investigate persistent heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained bleeding, or abdominal pain. Usually takes 15 to 30 minutes under sedation.Flexible SigmoidoscopyExamines the lower portion of the colon only, rather than its full length. Preparation is lighter than a full colonoscopy and sedation is sometimes unnecessary, but it cannot detect problems higher in the colon.Capsule EndoscopyYou swallow a vitamin-sized camera that photographs the small intestine as it passes through — a region that standard scopes cannot easily reach. There is no sedation and no recovery. The capsule passes naturally, and images are reviewed after the fact.ERCPCombines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat blockages in the bile and pancreatic ducts, most often gallstones stuck in a duct. Unlike a routine endoscopy, it carries a meaningful risk of pancreatitis afterward, so it is used when treatment is likely rather than for screening alone.Hemorrhoid TreatmentShrinks or removes swollen veins in the rectum and anus using rubber band ligation, injection, or surgical removal depending on severity. Banding is quick and typically requires no anesthesia; surgical removal is more effective for advanced cases but recovery is noticeably more uncomfortable.

Getting an appointment was a nightmare and eventually took an insurance representative calling this office to prevent them from giving my appointments away “because the referral hasn’t come through”. My insurance policy does not require a referral to see a specialist. It just might cost more. But instead of going over responsibility to pay and signing all of those forms regarding billing insurance etc, like every medical office I’ve ever been to, they called or messaged me with less than 24 hours before my appointment and said it has to be rescheduled. The first time I didn’t know my rights and my appointment was given away within an hour of being notfied. Even though I called my pcp (who had sent the referral) to confirm, by the time I called back my appointment was gone. Keep in mind the waitlist for a place like this, and that I was already an established patient here. Because they could not directly answer why and because my wife called to advocate for me, I was able to get an appointment for the following week. A week goes by, the same thing happens. A message comes through at 4:56 pm on Friday afternoon for my Monday morning appointment. They threaten to reschedule despite my insurance policy. At this point I call my insurance, who goes over my policy with me and says that they have no right to give my appointment away. This representative then puts me on hold and called this office herself. Every time she spoke to someone she was given the run around and would update me periodically on what was happening. She called the office, after asking what the problem was she was transferred to someone else, and the call kept disconnecting. She called the corporate office, got the same run around. She repeatedly told me that she didn’t understand why this office could not resolve such a simple issue. She called corporate 3 times, each time getting transferred and the call disconnected. She finally got a hold of someone in this satellite office and went over the insurance policy and also restated that they had no grounds to give away my appointments. I received a call from the office while this was happening and was told that they wanted to reschedule because it would cost more. I asked why this wasn’t shared before my previous appointment was given away, referring to how every other medical office handles billing. The person could not answer. I finally get to my appointment and bring my wife to have a witness and advocate. After sharing my symptoms the doctor clearly did not believe me and could not offer any kind of differential diagnosis. Had my wife not been there to ask for a specific test I do not believe the doctor would have done anything to help me. Based on the yelp reviews of this place, the doctors seem to prefer to tell women that they are exaggerating their pain rather than look into the cause of anything.

I had a recent appointment with Dr Shah. My PCP, Michael Klein, had referred me. I'd lost a lot of weight in recent years, for no obvious reason, and I found Dr. Shah to be extraordinarily thorough; he asked me probing questions, some that no other GI Dr. had ever asked me, and he ordered tests that I, and possibly the other MDs, had never heard of. If there's a detectable reason for my weight loss, I'm convinced that Dr. Shah is the one to come up with it. Many thanks -- Dan Levin

I’ve seen Dr. McGreen and Dr. Gao with this practice and both are phenomenal providers who actively listen to and advocate for their patients. Truly the standard of care you hope for, professionals that make your experience less intimidating than your average dental appointment.
