Procedures Performed

Common outpatient procedures performed at this ambulatory surgery center, based on reported specialties.

Cataract SurgeryThe clouded natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with a clear artificial one. It is one of the most common outpatient procedures performed in the country, usually takes under 30 minutes per eye, and is done under light sedation with numbing drops rather than general anesthesia.LASIK / Refractive SurgeryA laser reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, reducing dependence on glasses or contacts. The procedure itself takes minutes per eye. Vision is often noticeably better within a day, though it can take several weeks to fully stabilize.Glaucoma SurgeryCreates a new drainage path for fluid inside the eye to lower internal pressure. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve silently, so the goal is preventing further vision loss rather than restoring vision already lost. Several minimally invasive options are now performed in outpatient settings.Retinal SurgeryRepairs the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye, most often for a detached or torn retina, or for bleeding related to diabetes. Timing matters — a detaching retina is treated urgently because delay increases the risk of permanent vision loss.Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)Removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. When drooping upper lids block part of the visual field, the procedure is functional rather than cosmetic and is often covered by insurance if visual field testing documents the obstruction.Corneal TransplantReplaces damaged or clouded corneal tissue with donor tissue. Modern techniques often replace only the affected layer rather than the full thickness, which shortens recovery. Vision improves gradually over months, and stitches may stay in place for a year or longer.

I cannot say enough good things about the care I received at this surgery center. From the moment I walked in, the staff was warm, professional, and incredibly supportive. I was feeling quite fearful before my eye surgery, but the team truly listened to me and helped calm my nerves. They communicated every step thoroughly and provided excellent written materials to take home. The surgery went smoothly without complications. I felt respected and well-cared for throughout the entire process. Highly recommended!

I was totally impressed with Dr. Chu and his team. I have already recommended the Chu Vision Institute to my family and friends.Dr. Chu and his team was very thorough in how they handled my surgery. If any of you are considering Cataract Surgery, in my humble opinion, I don't think you could do better. Read the reviews like I did. You will find them to be true. Hope this review was helpful. I very rarely do reviews. But Dr. Chu and his amazing team deserve it.

I recently had cataract surgery in both eyes. From initial consultation to post-op visit the experience was everything it should have been plus more. On my first appointment I had a comprehensive eye exam and then met with Dr. Heckman. She explained everything and reviewed my options, answering all questions to my satisfaction. I returned for additional testing as I opted to go with the Light Adjustable Lens. I then had my surgeries, one week apart with one-day post op visits. At every visit, staff introduced themselves, I was greeted with a smile and called by my preferred name. Everything was explained, from billing, pre-op instructions, what to expect with the surgery itself, post-op instructions and follow up care- there were no surprises. Printed instructions were provided and pertinent reminders sent via text. The printed post-op eye drop sheet- fantastic! Though I know they are incredibly busy, both Dr. Chu and Dr. Heckman did not ever seem rushed or impatient, I was given their full attention at every encounter and made sure my questions were answered. I had the opportunity to accompany my husband to his visits and cataract surgeries with both Dr. Chu and Dr. Heckman over the last several years (he is very satisfied with his results). In talking with both of them, during his visits and my own, their passion for their work is evident. Dr. Chu remains on the cutting edge with the most up to date equipment and techniques while continuing to look to the future. When it came to choosing who I would see for my cataracts, there was no doubt in my mind it would be Dr. Chu and Dr. Heckman. Thank you Dr. Chu, Dr. Heckman, and to your entire team!

My experience was amazing. The staff was very friendly and on key with needed to get done. The communication was excellent from beginning to end. I enjoyed meeting Dr. Chu, his bedside manner was wonderful, first impression matters. I know your eyes are precious and putting my eyes in his care, I had no worries. I was guided every step of the way from the minute I entered into the building to my post op.If you’re having doubts, no need to, you will be in good hands with Dr. Chu and his staff. I would highly recommend the Institute to anyone. Thank you to everyone for making this a very stress free and pleasant experience. 😊
